. Need help deciphering MRI
DCIS survivor 2010 with breast changes.
Any help would be appreciated. I did not have any luck changing scan to pdf so I could copy and paste. Any other information you might need I can post.
Findings:
There are scattered areas of fibro glandular density and moderate background parenchymal enhancement. Scattered cysts are noted bilaterally.
Left Breast: There are lumpectomy changes are noted in the central to lower/outer aspect of the left breast, middle depth. There is associated clumped non-mass enhancement within the lumpectomy site extending from the skin surface posteriorly up to 5cm AP x 2.8 cm (TR) x 2cm (CC). This corresponds to the mammographic distortion. Biopsy of this area is recommended. this may be performed under stereotactic 3-D guidance
There is a 5mm enhancing mass in the lower, central to outer aspect of the left breast, posterior depth, corresponding to the mass noted on ultrasound imaging. Biopsy is recommended. Ultrasound guided biopsy is recommended.
Additional 4.5mm focus of enhancement in the outer, lower/central aspect of the left breast, far posterior depth is non-specific.

my reading is : we see something "odd", we don't know what it is. Biopsy recommended.
Unfortunately, you won't know anything more until the biopsies are done & the pathologist has looked at tissue. Imaging only takes us so far. Have you got your biopsies scheduled? -
Thank you for your response! Biopsy is scheduled for Weds morning, I have yet to hear from anyone about the MRI, just a call from radiology to schedule other tests. Not knowing drives me nuts. I had DCIS, stage zero, low grade in 2009. Now all of a sudden, changes.

fingers crossed for quick pathology results! The waiting sucks so bad.

It looks like two biopsies are recommended, one stereotactic (mammogram guided) and one core needle biopsy (ultrasound guided). The first is for an area of non-mass enhancement. NME could be DCIS, or it could be caused by a benign condition. The second is for very small mass. Here again, this could represent a small cancer or it could be something benign.
As moth said, you won't know more until you get the pathology results.
Good luck on Wednesday. Hoping for benign results for you. Please let us know how it goes!

Geez pc... it just never ceases to amaze me hearing someone with DCIS and low grade at that developing additional concerns later. People downplay DCIS and yet even lower grade DCIS can continue causing havoc, sometimes emotionally and sometimes medically. I'm hoping you stay in the former category. I never even knew what DCIS was until I was diagnosed with it. I cannot add to what moth and Beesie stated above. Wishing you well and please let us know....
