Hair falling out AGAIN :o( - After it Grew Back
April 2018 TNBC 2a - BRCA1, 8 rounds chemo, PCR, BMX w/ recon, age 62....
Hello, everyone. Trying to stay positive after everything I've been through. I know we all know what it's like on this forum. I am grateful we have a place to turn to for questions. Has anyone experienced MAJOR hair loss after the hair grew back after treatments for BC? 8 rounds chemo (total hair loss) ended 7/18, BMX, reconstruction, and total hysterectomy due to BRCA1 gene finished Dec 2018. My Hair grew back beautifully full with tons of volume within 4-6 months at the end of all treatments. My hair was great for about a year and now it is falling out again at rapid speed, losing Major volume, texture and is pretty much looks like straw in addition to the balding spots --- needless to say I am heartbroken, once again. I do have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and did have several issues over the past 4 months with my TSH levels "flipping & flopping". Had Hashimotos for over 30 years, and never, ever had hair loss like this. Of course, been to docs, endos, etc. -- TSH levels are now back to normal and I understand hair thinning, growth cycles are affected by TSH abnormalities BUT THIS IS REALLY BAD - just like when hair starts to fall out from chemo -- My docs are now telling me, it may never come back because of the Chemo treatments I had 18 months ago. Of course this is a waiting game, but I'm tired, Ladies, I'm so tired of hurting and I felt so much better with my hair coming back. So now, just one more thing to add to the list of fears that we carry with us once we've become a member of this club none of us ever wanted to join. Any suggestions or help would be very comforting. Thank you.

While my hair was falling out during chemo, my scalp/hair follicles were extremely painful. I finished all my ACT chemo treatments in January 2020. My hair has grown back extremely curly but just as thick as before and the scalp pain had stopped. 10 months later, I am now having some scalp pain AGAIN and have noticed the start of some hair loss. Has anyone else had this to happen? If so, what did you do and how did it end up? I do not have thyroid issues and have not taken my RA meds since May 2019. I am concerned. I appreciate all input!

I had to start methotrexate for RA years after losing my hair to chemo, and growing it back. It started dropping again, because methotrexate is a chemo drug. But Nioxin shampoo and creme rinse has fixed that. Maybe worth a try?

yellowdoglady, Thanks so much! My scalp has quit hurting right now. I will remember the Nioxin if it does it again.
