Worried
Had my first mammogram on Tuesday and Wednesday I get a call saying I need to come in for a diagnostic mammogram. The First mammogram results are Architectural distortion and circumscribed mass. My appointment is on Thursday. So my mind is all over the place.

Hi--I'm sorry you are worried. I wanted to let you know that a circumscribed mass means that its edges are defined, which is a good thing. AND...architectural distortion is not always a malignant finding. Especially with screening mammograms. ALSO....since this is your first mammogram....they have nothing to compare this to.
It's obviously good that they're doing their due diligence. I hope they are determined to ultimately be benign findings. Please let us know how Thursday goes

A HUGE percentage of women are called back. The initial mammo is only a screening mammo. The call back is for a diagnostic mammo and maybe an ultrasound.
I had a call back every two years like clock work from age 28 to age 67, when the call back actually showed DCIS. So 40 years with dense, fibercystic breasts and NO cancer.

I had several call backs for diagnostic mammograms, three stereotactic biopsies over a 12 year period of time before my diagnosis last July. I read some years ago 80% of initial call backs are benign. Also 80% of those called back are also benign conditions. I hope that is true for you as well. If not you've found a great information and support system here on breastcancer.org. Please let us know the outcome of your upcoming diagnostic mammogram.
Edited to add: 2/3 biopsies were on right side as were most of the diagnostic mammograms - everything on my right side has always been and remains benign....

Thank you. I will keep everyone upda

I had diagnostic mammogram done followed by an ultrasound. I also had a biopsy done all in the same day. Glad I didn’t have to wait until next week. I had a suspicious finding. Bi rad Category 4. Now just waiting for my Pathology results.

Thanks for updating us! You were so fortunate to be able to have all that done in the same day! Find some enjoyable and relaxing things these next days while you wait. Certainly you will have some worry too... Please let us know results when you get those.......

Negative for cancer but high risk for developing cancer. I have to see a breast surgeon.

So happy for negative!

Gailgirl, there are lots of “high-riskers” and forums for such here. I am one, with LCIS. Let us know what is going on
