edited November 2020 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello - just posting to partly clear my head and to also see what you think.

Two months ago doing a self exam I must have squeezed harder than usual and a drop of brownish blood came out of one duct. Finally called the Dr. and she sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound on October 29. The radiologist came in after the ultrasound and said there's a spot on the right side that presents in such a way that it could be benign or cancer 😳

I went to my dr on Thursday November 12 as she wanted to do an exam...she can feel the lump. She gave me the radiologist report and in his words there's a "1.7cm hypoechoic oval lesion in the right breast at 12 o'clock with some angular margins. It could be an abnormal fibroadenoma but due to the patient's presenting complaint of intermittent bloody nipple discharge and the margins it could be a ductal papilloma or a papillary carcinoma." 😳😳😳

Am I right to be worried??? The good - oval shape.........the bad - discharge on one side from one duct, palpable lump, angular margins, solid (not a cyst). It's the angular margins that has me freaking out.

Thoughts? Waiting on a biopsy date is awful. I feel like my the radiologist was worried because his face said "sorry I'm telling you this" and my dr seems worried because she didn't say "don't worry, I'm sure it's fine" and I'm worried because ANGULAR MARGINS ARE BAD. I feel like if it's cancer we caught it early and we'll deal with it - the unknown is awful!!!

Thank you for listening.

If you read through other people's posts in the "Not diagnosed" category, you'll find that trying to guess what a medical professional is thinking by what you perceive as their facial expression is an exercise in futility. In the age of masks, it's even more futile. The radiologist was just as likely to be thinking "that last thing I ate didn't agree with me" or "my partner was a real jerk this morning" or "I wonder if I refilled my dog's water bowl." Step away from the imaginary conversations and try to do fun things until your next appointment.

Sorry you're going through this ! Yes, waiting is the most difficult part. Hopefully scheduling occurs soon, along with the biopsy - then waiting for results. So as Alice suggested do what you can to engage in enjoyable activities and distract with these and other healthy things until then.

Good point, Alice. I could add the thought, "I'm so constipated today!"

@chalkwriter what was your Birads score? That will give you an idea of how “scary” they think it looks

4a is listed at the end of the report.

I realize not banking much on conversations not had is futile but looking at the report there's more bad than good I think so it leads my mind elsewhere. It's been two and a half weeks since the health center got my requisition so if I haven't heard anything by tomorrow I'm going to call.

BIRADs 4A reflects an assessment by the Radiologist that the risk of cancer is in the range of 2% to 10%.

It appears therefore that the Radiologist sees more good than bad.

We are in a similar boat! Yet with masses even similar can mean different things

Mine are cystic with hypoechogenicity, and heterogeneous with moderate vascularity

    Possibly this or that.

Hopefully you get your biopsy soon. I’m in the waiting for results part now but it was just yesterday that I had the two masses removed. I feel better knowing that the 2-10% suspicious masses are out.

Happy to hear that you are being your best advocate to get what’s needed done and I hope you get your appointment soon!

It’s hard they told me 2 benign opinions but also 1 malignant and it’s so hard to ignore the 1 out of the 3.

...and all I hear is Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber saying "so you're saying there's a chance"! 😂 I'm never a negative Nelly but this has thrown me!

I think it happens to a lot of us.. Benign, benign, benign, benign, and Malignant.

Malignant what cancer?!??!!! You said .00001 chance!!!! There is still a chance ahhhhhhhhh!

Lol. I mean they have to warn us but it's like we zone in on the negative and only hear blah blah blah cancer blah blah blah blah.

I’d say I’m not stressed but I’m for sure stress eating, oops. I’m either sleeping or eating basically lol. At least I can eat, after surgery I didn’t want to eat much but later I was like mmmmm foood.

We got this! No matter the outcome we are strong!
