First ever screening mammo.

I'm 35 and had my very first mammogram last week. I was not surprised to get a call back for a diagnostic one, as I know this is pretty common after a baseline mammo to determine what is normal for me. The below are the results if my screening mammo. I was just curious, does anyone know if is it common to name a focal asymmetry as being round? I wonder if that means its likely to be a mass/cyst...And I wonder if its pretty normal to only see a possible architectural distortion from one view? I know everyone is different. I have my diagnostic mammo this week. I know it will most likely all be good, but it makes me anxious thinking about it.

BILATERAL FIRST EVER DIGITAL SCREENING MAMMOGRAM 3D/2D WITH CAD:
11/6/2020
CLINICAL: Screening.

Current study was also evaluated with a Computer Aided Detection (CAD)
system.
No prior exams were available for comparison.
Two view 3D digital tomosynthesis as well as C-view (synthetic 2D
reconstruction with CAD) were performed.

There are scattered fibroglandular elements in both breasts.

There is a round focal asymmetry in the right breast at 11 o'clock
anterior depth.
There is possible architectural distortion in the left breast
posterior depth superior region seen on the mediolateral oblique view
only.
No other suspicious masses or calcifications are seen in either
breast.


IMPRESSION: INCOMPLETE: NEED ADDITIONAL IMAGING EVALUATION
The round focal asymmetry in the right breast at 11 o'clock anterior
depth is indeterminate.
The architectural distortion in the left breast posterior depth
superior region seen on the mediolateral oblique view only is
indeterminate.
Additional views with possible ultrasound are recommended.

    Lots of times an architectural distortion is just how you were squeezed-skin could be overlapped, etc. Especially true when only POSSIBLY seen on a single view. When they take more pictures that may not exist. Hopefully they will also be able to determine that the round assymetry looks clearly benign

    Yes, I would think that the appearance of a round focal asymmetry could be caused by something like a cyst. Will you be having an ultrasound as well as a diagnostic mammo? Ultrasounds are best at identifying cysts because they can distinguish between fluid and solid, which a mammogram can't do.

    And yes again, it is very common to find architectural distortion on one view only - and as Melissa said, that makes it more likely to be an imaging issue rather than anything going on within your breast.

    An ultrasound was not ordered yet. I'm assuming they will order one if the diagnostic mammo confirms there is a need for one. Its interesting because I did get a 3D mammo for my screening, so I'm not sure what other angles they need to see from, but I'm no expert, so I'll do whatever they tell me too. We shall see!     A diagnostic mammo provides a close-up magnified view of the area that is being targeted.

    Went and got a follow up diagnostic mammogram and also an ultrasound. Just have to follow up in 6 months. They aren't worried about it and the radiologist said if he thought it was suspicious he would be doing a biopsy. So, I'm going to take their advice and not worry about it either...at least until May!


    There is confirmation of a 9 mm oval mass with a circumscribed margin
    in the right breast at 9 o'clock anterior depth. Ultrasound
    demonstrates a hypoechoic lobulated solid mass at 9 o'clock anterior
    depth that correlates with mammography findings.

    No other suspicious masses or calcifications are seen in either breast
    on the mammogram or right ultrasound.


    IMPRESSION: INCOMPLETE: NEED ADDITIONAL IMAGING EVALUATION, ULTRASOUND
    PROBABLY BENIGN
    The mass in the right breast is probably benign. A follow-up
    mammogram in 6 months is recommended as this is a baseline study.

    Glad they believe it is benign though will re-evaluate in 6.... sounds like that gives you more peace of mind....
