Lacey, happy anniversary tomorrow. Ours is also Nov 3rd and we are planning the same "celebration". Also, WOW for the negative Covid test.

We did not expect any trick or treaters. Our development usually hosts a party for the kids but not this year, of course. Houses are too far apart, no sidewalks, no streetlights, so no safety for going door to door.

Minus, hope the MO visit goes well and good news on your skin .

Yay for the negative test, Lacey!

We kept our porch light off, but one kid still knocked on the door. We ignored him (or her, we didn't go to the peephole). There were enough Halloween houses on the block that we didn't feel guilty. I learned, though, that there were several strolling adults who helped themselves to candy that neighbors had put out on their tables & lawns for kids. Disgusting & selfish!

Maybe good news. THe MO (who replaced my beloved MO who retired) said that since I am HER2+ but NOT hormone positive I should only have a 5% change of recurrence after 5 years out. Hmmmm. I had a recurrence at 2 years, but now I'm 6 years past that. Maybe good news, but I know that every doc has a different opinion.

Dinner was (ta-da) Stove Top stuffing with a poached chicken breast and sauteed Bok Choy.

Happy for your good results minus. Hello to all. Dinner was 1/2 a chef salad from bucees, which was an impulse buy during our 10 hour night drive from Houston to the cabin. We’ll be here though thanksgiving, then returning for more moving, packing, cleaning and my quarterly scans. Turkey day will be modified somewhat due to plumbing and cooking limitations. We will have one couple here as we always spend it together and possibly another couple, if they don’t have plans. A group of six max seems reasonable to us.

Gordy & Leslie did keep their "igloo" reservation last Friday, and they report that--aside from freezing--it was quite pleasant. There was a large side panel open, but also a hole on the other side of the plastic (which upset the restaurant mgr. but made the kids feel safer). Gordy's working on Thanksgiving & Black Friday but is off the Tues. & Wed. before. I think Bob can do Wed. night. Everyone will wear masks except while actively eating at the table--and I'll put the leaves in so we can sit even further apart. We'll get a T-day meal package from either the Palm or Big Jones (a neighborhood Carolina low-country-style restaurant).

Not sure what I'll eat tonight, since Bob's working late and I don't want to tuck into the "strip" portion of the porterhouse (we killed off the filet side yesterday, and he wants steak again tomorrow). I might do a mix of whole-wheat spaghetti/zoodles with cherry tomatoes, asparagus, oil, garlic & Romano. (And some of the little bit of live basil that survived the overnight frost).

Pork roast and saurkraut in the crockpot over mashed potatoes and an Impromptu Persian cucumber salad. Not a bad dinner for a busy day. I had a telemed GI consult (pre- colonoscopy) then left to go get a haircut and color. My salon does everything right that I can see so I take this calculated risk every few months.

Instead of the zoodles, I used WholeFoods' hearts-of-palm "keto linguine." Mixed it with olive oil, whole wheat spaghetti, sliced asparagus, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, the surviving garden basil and fresh oregano, sauteed garlic, freshly ground black pepper, and grated pecorino Romano. Pretty filling, and the texture was actually more pasta-like than zucchini. The spaghetti was undercooked--I used the Fasta Pasta microwave pasta cooker, which usually takes less time than in a pot of boiling water, but for this brand (Bionature) 9 min. wasn't long enough to get to al dente. Better undercooked than mushy, though.

Hope the garlic is out of my system by the time I go to the dentist tomorrow afternoon. My hygienist's mask will likely blunt the odor.

    eric95us:

I recall after my exchange surgery, during which I was also given steroids, I was laying there in bed and the nurse came in and placed a single cup of red jello on the tray in front of me, and then walked away.

I stared at it for a moment. Typically I don't eat jello because I'm put off by where it comes from and how it's made but this time my steroid brain said "I think I'll eat this."

I don’t want to jinx it but it seems the new anti-nausea med is working well and surprisingly my appetite is good too, which has been poor on Xeloda until now. No idea about dinner but I have a balanced snack plate of cottage cheese, slice of white American cheese, celery stick w/peanut butter, radish, cauliflower, almonds, grapes, a chunk of watermelon and a few lemonhead candies. Everything tastes so good!

Such good news Mae. I'm savoring everything you mentioned in my mind. How will cooking be at the "cabin"? I know there are some things that aren't finished, but I'm pretty sure you have a stove/oven. And certainly a fridge.

Only a fridge and propane burner, meals will be simple until the plumbing is completed and a permanent kitchen is built. We have a rotisserie but I think it’s too small for a turkey and a pressure cooker. It’s workable but far less convenient.

Beaverntx, Happy Anniversary! I’ll be interested to see what you decide to order for your dinner. We are going to defer our celebration dinner until tomorrow since I am still feeling crummy, and cannot get excited about an expensive take out meal that I wouldn’t enjoy! So it’s a chicken soup anniv for me and a better Allessi soup for DH who is kindly making the soups. Maybe it’s good that I feel sick since it leaves little energy to pay much attention to the other, more celebrated, news of the day. Ha!

Illimae, so glad to hear that you have found a med that is helping mitigate those SEs. Sounds like you will be a capable pioneer at the cabin! :)

We decided to make anniversary cards for each other rather than buy them this year. Maybe due to so much time on our hands. Mine was hysterical....looked like something an 8 year old girl made...tho I loved doing it since I used (my terrible) drawing, along with fabric scraps, and fabric fluff dryer residue for hair. DH used his computer skills to do his with a series of pix of our years together. We are soooo differently wired brain wise.....same theme but very different approaches!

Minus, I’m glad your MO appt went well....I missed your wine pairing with your meal that evening. :)

    Happy Election Results Day everyone!

Happy Anniversary, Lacey. Hope you can enjoy your delayed celebration meal.

German won out. DH had goulash with spaetzle and red cabbage, I had an unpronouncable (to me) dish of chicken with spinach in a mushroom cream sauce. We both had dinner salads and shared the two tone rye bread. Finishing the champagne (Cass Brut, 2014, Marsanne grapes) now and will have dessert of cherry pie ala mode later.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, my camera is not being cooperative today.

Beaverntx, your special dinner looks lovely! And oh, my....CHERRY PIE a la mode!!! Be still my heart! Probably my very favorite dessert of all time. DH picked up a delicious looking chocolate mousse cake, which we will both enjoy once this stomach bug departs and we have our specialdinner. Tonight I was happy to have the “anniversary chicken soup” that he made. Then I conked out, and now am up foolishly riding the crazy roller coaster of election return watching. Tho sleep is calling again, especially as my brain explodes with numbers and percentages. The folks who do this tracking must live for these nights! ;))))

Lacey, what a nice idea to make your anniversary cards.

    Beaverntx, elegant table!

We had a blah dinner last night. Leftover lima beans and brown rice. All the romaine lettuce in the refrigerator was frozen so I tossed it and made a salad with the other ingredients. Not sure what's going on with the refrigerator. We keep adjusting for lowering the temperature. I put the temperature gauge down on a lower shelf.

The election has been a major disappointment. I cling to a shred of hope.

    Tonight's dinner not decided.

I agree Beaver. Definitely elegant. Lacey - are you feeling any better? Carole - holding the shred with you. Dinner was leftover chicken florentine - mostly spinach & bok choy left. Tonight will be the last of the chicken breast with the leftover stove top stuffing.

Went to a lovely 'picnic' yesterday in the back yard of one of my neighbors. 6 of us - all wearing masks & sitting 6 ft apart. The hostess got everyone to choose something from a local sandwich shop & she picked it up. And we all brought our own drinks. Great to see these friends but sometimes hard for me to hear those clear across the circle with the masks on and her neighbor's dog barking & barking.

Eric - how's your MIL doing?

Carole, keep clinging! It looks like numbers continue to shift, which in this very close election will make a difference. I managed to ride the results roller coaster through most of the night, and am glad I’m not one of the vote counters nor TV folks who worked through the night. Some are sporting some very tired eyes today.

Minus, I’m feeling “on the mend” despite my all nighter. If I continue feeling fine through this afternoon, I’m sure DH will be eager to order our special dinner tonight. which we hope might serve to celebrate beyond our 47th.

Wehad some snow sprinkles through the night (just think....I would have missed them had I been sleeping!), but today is a beautifully sunny day, which is supposedly the first day of a warm up trend. It is really true that in New England, “...if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute”.

WI just got called for Biden--but there will be a recount (at the Trump campaign's expense). I had about 4 hrs. of sleep, when the allergist called to reschedule my penicillin "challenge" yet again, this time due to a "staffing issue." I suspect that when next Fri. (the new date) rolls around, they will outright cancel it because by then the state will likely ban elective procedures. (I had better get a root-touch-up & trim ASAP, because I have a feeling personal-care-services will also get shut down).

Cellars reopened last night, not just for carryout/delivery but so long as weather permits, patio dining. But Bob worked too late last night (and had to take a pricy cab home because he lost his car keys somewhere at the hospital) to go out, so I ordered out a bunch of apps & sides to go with our leftover porterhouse. (I drove him down this morning, with a spare set of keys). He will be late again tonight too. So I will call a friend to whom I talked yesterday--and is going sorta stir-crazy--and ask if he wants to join me tonight at Cellars' patio. It's gorgeous, and mid-70s!

YEEEE HAAHH, Ilona! Wine, schmine--make it champagne!!!

My buddy never called me back about Cellars' patio tonight (open till 8), so I'll likely go solo. I feel guilty taking up an outdoor table--even a non-tented two-top--all by myself, but I want to keep them in business as long as possible. Probably gonna have crab cakes or the seared ahi, with a glass of cava. Maybe get a meatloaf platter to go for my housekeeper (she has to take her DH to his eye dr. tomorrow and won't be back in till Fri., but it'll keep).

Dinner tonight will be the other half of last night's dinner without the champagne but possibly with a glass of wine.

I echo the hoorays illimae! Skol! 🍷🍷

Dinner was leftover pork and Kraut from Monday along with the Persian cucumber salad I had made. They say you don't need to peel the little cucumbers but my tummy disagreed so next time I'll take that extra step.

Leftover tempura Brussels sprouts with wasabi aioli. I had to force myself to reheat (air-fry) them, because I hadn't eaten since noon (plus cappuccino about 3pm) and I was actually getting hunger pangs. Most people calm their nerves by stress-eating; I lose my appetite. Didn't go out tonight because my friend didn't return my call till he got back from the grocery--so I made a reservation for tomorrow night. (It'll be about 70 at dinnertime--jean jacket weather as the night progresses).
