Hello Everyone,

I've been lurker on this forum for awhile and felt the need to post since I'm making myself sick worrying. I will come back an post once I get results in case someone reads this with the same symptoms. I apologize in advance for the length of this post. I had to get it out as I had no one to vent to.

A little background on me:

35 years old female with no children not on birth control, non-smoker nor do I drink. I have a aunt on my father's side that had BC in her 30s and again in her 40s and confirmed that she is a carry of the BRCA gene believe to be from her grandfather on her father's side whom had breast cancer and died from it.

My symptoms:

About a year ago at 34 I felt a lump in my left breast located in the upper inner quadrant that is less than 1cm and not visible on the surface of the skin. I dismissed it as loose breast tissue and it didn't hurt. Fast forward to today, for about a month I've been having intense breast pain its a burning itchy pain that spreads throughout my breast and moves to my armpits, forearms, upper back, stomach, & sometimes my legs. I'll like to note it doesn't seem the pain is coming from the lump nor has the lump grown in size in the last year. There is no rash, swelling, or nipple discharge. But the pain was so much I had to stop wearing bras for a week. Only thing that helped was cold compress and my period came and it alleviate the pain some but its still a daily nagging pain.

So I finally made an appointment with my GP but its not for weeks due to Covid in my area. I tried to go straight for a mammogram or ultrasound but no one would schedule me for one without a doctor's order. Should I try to get an earlier appointment? At this point my anxiety is through the roof I can't eat or sleep I've been crying for days thinking of the worst.

Thanks for listening to whom ever reads this. You ladies are amazing and inspirational. Be blessed.

What you're describing to me sounds like it could be nerve pain. It's possible that nerves in your upper back are irritated or pinched which can present as pain in the breast as well as radiating down the body. You could try massaging your back, doing some stretches or going to a massage therapist while you wait for your dr appointment.

maybe you can get on a cancellation list for your dr?

    hope you feel better soon

I agree with Moth. If you're having relief after your periods it's unlikely to be breast cancer.

You don't say where you are located, but I'd try to get an appointment with your OB/Gyn doc. Sometimes they can order a mammo quicker if that is needed.

Why don’t you call your GPs office and ask them to refer you for your mammogram so the results are in at your appointment?

Thank you ladies for your responses! I'm taking moth advice and have a massage therapist appointment tomorrow. I'm also going to try to get an appointment with the local woman's health center who does mammogram referrals. I've changed GP's due to insurance but I'm try to see if my old one can fit me in or give me a referral. Since there no good in worrying myself sick, I'm going try to stop researching on this forum until I get seen. Thanks again for all the advice.

Hi Travelgirl. This is the first time I have ever replied to a post, but I have been a reader of this site for some time. I am glad you are following up, but I just wanted to suggest that you tell you doctor that you would like to have a Brca test done based on your family history. It should be covered under your insurance. Count on being denied the first time.

My Dad was one of four boys. Everyone of them eventually was diagnosed with some type of cancer. We found out later that one uncle was diagnosed with breast cancer but kept it secret, from embarrassment. We didn’t think to test for brca until my sister got breast cancer. Since then, four of five of us that have been tested have the brca2 gene. For you to have the gene mutation, your father must have inherited it from his father (50 percent chance), and then you have a 50 percent chance that he passed it to you. Knowledge is power

Snowflake888, we just want to say THANK YOU for sharing your experience. This can be very helpful to others, and indeed, we need to help reverse the stigma for male breast cancer.

Thanks Snowflake for replying to my post! I actually spoke to my father about getting the test he is the only boy and his other sister was tested but he didn't know her results. I definitely will ask for the test at the appointment. Like you said knowledge is power and I have a brother and sister as well that need to know.

Just wanted to provide an update: I was able to get an appointment with a OB/GYN who is going to test me for the BCRA 2 gene next month. She did an breast exam and said she didn't feel anything malignant but she found another similar lump in my right breast and given my family history ordered a diagnostic mammogram & ultrasound. Today had the mammogram & ultrasound and they determined the lump was a oil cyst; and that I had dense tissue in my right breast and to come back in 6 months just be certain so they have something to compare it too. I'm still having pain but like others said it seems to be nerve related and I'll follow up with my GP if it doesn't resolve itself naturally once I de-stress myself fully. Thanks everyone again for the advice.
