Referred to a general surgeon after ultrasound

hi there, I am 31, I found a marble sized lump in my right breast at the 10 o clock position. My obgyn saw me right away and ordered an ultrasound. Today they called to say that the radiologist said it was okay, but that since its palpable they are referring me to a general surgeon to see if he may want to remove it. Is this normal? Could there still be a chance of malignancy? I am surprised no ones mentioned a biopsy, perhaps the surgeon will want to biopsy before removal? I guess I'm just not feeling too confident that it is okay or not? Any information or similar experiences would be helpful to hear. Thanks!

    Removing it at this point would be an excisional biopsy.

    A needle biopsy is often done after mammo/ultrasound. you might want to look for a breast surgeon in your community or a nationally recognized cancer center.

    I agree on finding a breast surgeon if the advice is to remove it. I had a complex sclerosing lesion last year but they did a core needle biopsy before they concluded it was complex and big enough that they needed to remove the entire thing. The CNB and excisional biopsy was both done by the breast surgeon and ultrasound guided. I was told it was most likely benign but it drove me into a stricken panic given my mom was diagnosed with BC. It ended up being benign.

    If they remove it, most likely they send it to the lab to be sure and confirm it's not cancer but it's good to ask.
