Hi,

I'm new here. I just went to my first consultation appointment. I have a mass in my left breast. The doctor did say it looked worrisome. I am so scared! I am only 33 and I have 4 yr old. I JUST WANT TO LIVE FOR HER! That is all I can think about. Any information or kind words would be appreicated.

Terricka - I am sorry that you are going through this. I know about 10 people that have had breast biopsies that turned out to be nothing so here's to hoping that you will be in that same group. I know it's hard not to worry so I would suggest you concentrate on the positive things you have in your life. It will be a long week for you and maybe even another week until you hear the results so I will keep my fingers crossed for you until then.

Hi Terricka, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you're here and worrying, but we hope you'll find some support here. We know it's hard to keep calm -- but please know that most biopsies are benign. Please keep us posted with what you find out, and in the meantime, try to keep yourself busy and your mind occupied. We're all here for you!

Terricka, have you had a mammogram and ultrasound? And do you have a copy of the Radiologist's report from those screenings? The report will provide information about what was seen that warrants the biopsy. And at the bottom of the report there should be a BIRADs number, which will probably be BIRADs 4, which just means that the Radiologist assesses the need for a biopsy - a "4" is assigned by the Radiologist if he/she thinks there is anything more than a 2% chance that what's seen on the imaging might be cancer. Approximately 70%-75% of BIRADs 4 biopsies are benign. Sometimes the BIRADs rating might be a "4A", 4B" or "4C", which further refines the Radiologist's assessment of the risk.

Without knowing what's in your report, it's hard to know what to say, other than to reassure you that most biopsies are benign. And to let you know that if you are diagnosed with breast cancer, approx. 80% of breast cancers are early stage and very treatable at time of diagnosis.

Waiting for the biopsy, and then waiting for the results, is a scary time. The best advice I can give is that you not let yourself go to the worst case scenarios because in most cases, that's not what happens at all.

When next week is your biopsy?

Let us know how it goes!

Hi! Thank you for responding. I had a mammogram/ultrasound last week. On the report it came back with calcium deposits and small tumors. I was rated BIRAD 4C. However when I went to the breast doctor today he was only concerned with one spot (11:00 o'clock) on the breast. I'm just worried!!! The biopsy is Tuesday.

Hang in there Terricka...I know exactly how you feel. My kids (14, 9, 3 and 2) were the first thing I thought of when they told me they found a mass. I lost my mom at too early an age to cancer (GBM) and honestly my heart completely broke for my kids thinking that they might have to go through that same thing. But as I learned more about what was going on with me and have travelled along this journey it's gotten a lot easier. Like some of the other ladies are saying, this is the worst part, the not knowing and the waiting. It's so scary and you feel like can't breathe. Tons of biopsies are benign though, so keep that close to you. Hug your daughter tight and just know you have the strength to get through whatever hand you get dealt. What day is your biopsy scheduled for next week?

Prayers it is easy. They gave me a little ice pack I could freeze again when thawed and put in my bra after mine that helped afterwards I remember.

I did did not have real "downtime" which will be a plus with a little one at home. May you have good outcomes.

    Hi Terricka,

I am really sorry about the result. I understand your feelings. You will feel more calm once you will know what type of treatment you need. I will keep you in my prayers. Big hug,

    Barb

    Terricka, I'm sorry.

I'll 'see' you over in the Just Diagnosed Forum. No one ever wants to head over there, but you'll get lots of advice and support there.
