Making myself sick.

I’m worrying myself sick.
my breasts over the last 2 months have gotten swollen and painful... it started out just the right side, and into my armpit. Now the left side is hurting too. I have some slight discoloration (pinkish purple?) on both breasts.

I was an exotic danced for five years so I know my breasts very well ha. I know what’s normal for them and what’s not for sure. This pain and discoloration are new to me. Even my nipple started getting darker. The tenderness was getting to be to much for me... I gave in and went to my doctor who referred me for an ultrasound. The radiologist said everything looks good as in no masses or lumps. But that i “wasn’t out of the woods yet”.

but my doctor doesn’t believe there’s nothing wrong. And referred me to the cancer center where I live to be further looked at. And said the coloring and the swelling makes her concerned about IBC. So she demanded I go to the cancer center ASAP and told them the same thing over the phone.

i did lots of googling... which is how I ended up here. Finding pictures all over google that scared me because some seemed familiar and some were so extreme I try to tell myself there’s no way I have cancer..

I’m about to turn 25... I have an almost 6 year old and a 1 1/2 year old... I’m so scared. I had a partial hysterectomy in June (they left me my ovaries). I have had implants since 2017.

There has only EVER been ONE documented case of bilateral IBC from what a radiologist on this board said. IBC is extremely rare, and additionally the average age of onset is in your sixties.

You are 25, have a clear ultrasound and have something that sounds a lot more like hormonal or implant issues than cancer. Try not to get ahead of yourself between now and your appointment. It is really unlikely that you have anything dire going on.

Since you have the same thing going on with both breasts, as MelissaDallas said, this is likely to be hormonal or possibly related to your implants.

Are your symptoms worse at some times that other times? Any relationship to your menstrual cycle?

Or could this be an autoimmune reaction to your implants? Something like that would not necessarily kick in right away but could build up over time, and now after 3 years, you are being hit with the symptoms. Are your only health issues related to your breasts, or do you have other things going on?

You do need to find out what's going on, but given how rare IBC is in women your age, and the fact that your issues are bilateral (both breasts) which would be so rare that cases are written up in medical journals, you and your doctor should be looking at what else could be causing this, rather than putting your focus only on IBC / breast cancer.

Let us know how it goes.
