Painful drainage port / reaction to adhesive
My surgery was Tuesday. I had a reaction to the adhesive (burning blisters) and was advised to remove the bandages. One of the ports hurts more than the other- and I’m so uncomfortable. Drains are to be removed Wednesday am. Is this normal? Docs don’t seem concerned. No fever, not “hot” to the touch, just feeling exposed and painful when I move.

Do you mean the drains? I had one, out of 4, that gave me fits. I went back to surgeon, nurse fiddled with it. Didn’t stop the leaking and pain until it came out. And that one REALLY hurt. Just had to deal with it

thank you- yes the drain. I taped it to my side with paper tape and it’s seems to be a little better. thank yo!

Yes, they can be uncomfortable but it appears you have no signs of infection. You will be happy on Wednesday and they are called drains (Jackson Pratt or JP drains). Ports are for infusions and are quite another thing. Just a few more days

I had surgery on the 17th and have had similar issues with one of my drains the first few days. Not so much tape irritation but discomfort, leaking, etc. It will get better!
Join us on the Sept surgery group if you would like. There are several of us, many with mastectomies and TE's, going through some of the same stuff at the same time.
