I found a large hard lump near my right breast in the middle of my chest and I'm trying really hard not to freak out. Any other time I would have been at the emergency room, but I can't afford it. I'm really scared though and I have so many hospital bills from freaking out over every little thing over the past 3 years that they said was nothing. I'm trying to remain calm. Has anyone else experieced this? I just need to know that this could also be nothing more than something. Thank you for your help in advance.

It isn’t an emergency, whatever it is, so the ER is not the appropriate place to have it evaluated. I’d start with a primary care doc. Yes, I’m sure there are benign things it could be.

What are all these things that have had you at the ER so much?

    pj007,

Melissa Dallas is right. Emergency rooms don't provide mammograms or ultrasounds. You should make an appointment with your primary care physician and he/she can refer you to a breast care center for a diagnostic mammogram. Under the Affordable Care Act, your health insurance should pay for the mammogram in full. (This also applies to Medicaid recipients.)

Yes, your lump could be entirely benign. But, it's best to get it checked out, just in case it isn't. ((Hugs))

This also could have nothing whatsoever to do with her breasts and not require a mammogram, etc. That is why she should start at primary care.

pj007, we're sorry you are here and worried, but glad you found our Community! Great advice from MelissaDallas and ElaineTherese. Of course it could be something benign, but it should be checked by a doctor. In the meantime, take a look at the article What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas from our main site, that reinforces that there are many types of benign masses that can be found.

Please come back to let us know how you're doing!
