Let's Post our Daily Exercise

The wind went down & the sun came out, so we were able to have a very nice socially distanced Book Club gathering in my backyard last evening. We are all active or retired teachers. Those currently teaching are so stressed out (our middle & high school are on a hybrid plan). My 6th grade math teacher friend said that four teachers were in tears at their staff meeting yesterday. She is contemplating retirement next year even though she is a GREAT teacher and in normal times would not be ready to be done (another one of our members said the same thing). So it is a pretty sad deal.
I went to Pound this morning & will do Zumba tonight. I should be cleaning the house & grocery shopping; but since it's another nice day, I may do dog stuff instead.
-
Nice day here, too, but no dog so did laundry instead of going out for a walk. The dog is with DD at her other home (the boyfriend's). Then had phone calls to make. Sweetandspecial, it's funny how we should now choose our friends based on what exercise equipment they have at home. Hehe. Lilacblue, you sound very busy still. Ruth, that is sad. They should be doing much more to protect teachers. These are nerve wracking days.
Did my Zumba/stretching class online.
-
Reporting in to say that I DID clean the house. Blah!!!
-
Oh Ruth, blah is right and love the meme! Killer outdoor fireplace in this weeks www breakfast photo. HeidiHill, yes, but chilling soon, hey, new LM United releasing worldwide on Saturday. Sweet, love to know what you think of peloton after trying it. edj3, I'm sure you have looked at it all. Off to soak in a hot bath and chill.

Here’s the new puppy..... Nugget!

Mommy2, so cute! Already looks very at home.
Just wanted to post this pic of my brother who passed away before his 57th birthday last month. He was a high school math and computer science teacher. He was finishing his PHd in math education. I like where the poster behind him says "We are all responsible for each other's learning." He "was concerned about the achievement gap. His doctoral dissertation on variation theory postulated that teaching and rewarding mixed ability groups for their efforts rather than solely focusing on individual results could benefit all learners. The theory was that this of learning would provide incentives to students who find a topic easy, to help the students who find it harder and would even reinforce the topic to the students who were in effect teaching their peers. (He) was working with the school district for permission to undertake a study of these techniques... when he was sidelined by pancreatic cancer." (From local newspaper obituary)
I like to think this thread's leitmotif is "We are all responsible for each other's health and fitness.*
edj, I've found from taking bone-strengthening drugs, Zometa specifically, that the worst side effects can be mitigated by doing strength training. I was taking AIs at first and even then increased my bone density substantially. I have no idea about Tymlos though as this seems to work on different pathways.
-
Heidi, I am so sorry for your loss; and as a teacher, I am saddened to lose your brother's advocacy for children. Losing his voice will be a sad loss to the entire educational community. He sounds like an amazing man.
-
Mommy, I am already in love with your little Nugget! Keep posting pictures.
Plus my other exercise yesterday, I ended up going to Yoga in the Park ( the teacher decided at the last minute that it was nice enough to go outside, if it had been on Zoom, I would have skipped). No formal exercise today, but we are taking the grand-dogs on an adventure hike this afternoon so I will get my steps!
-
Nugget ran me ragged this morning until he crashed for nap time in his crate.
-
Mommyof2- Nugget is so cute! Love those ears!
HeidiHill - so sorry for your loss of your brother. His idea of focusing on individual effort and not necessarily achievements is inspiring.
Wonderland- I forgot to say congratulations on your milestone! Hooray!
Ruth - sorry for the loss of your aunt.
-
He’s hyper!
-
Heidihill that's a great photo and I'm with Ruth, he sounds like he was pretty darn amazing
Re bone loss. Well I've done weights my whole life so not sure there's room for improvement there. As my older son says, it's possible if I hadn't been doing all the right things, my bones would be in even worse shape. So there's that.
-
Oh HeidiHill, I'm so very sorry for your loss and what an amazing man your brother was.
Mommy, what a sweetie.
Karen, Gut yontif!
-
He runs me ragged outside on his leash. Wants to chase birds, squirrels and pull me along for the ride. Already correcting those bad urges.
-
Lucky puppies are so cute, because they are lots of work until they are trained.
-
Heidihill, I am so sorry. Your brother sounds like he was an amazing man.
M0mmy: Nugget is absolutely adorable, even if he is hyper!
I've been doing some walking, but not enough. Need to get back into doing more.
-
His training is underway. He already knows Come and Potty Time means.
-
1357 pages down the road from the beginning in 2009. This is a dedicated group. I'm hoping it isn't too late to join in. I know some of you from other threads. Heidi - so sorry about your brother. Mommy - what a cutie.
Since the gym's closed, I had to give up Silver Sneakers and Chair Yoga at one of the hospitals. And our subdivision never opened our little pool - so no water aerobics 3x a week. So I started walking March 29th. I generally walk 3-1/2 to 4 miles every morning - and today was day #167. I'm not jogging, but it is a brisk walk - 3.2 miles an hour or around 19 minutes for a mile. I've only missed a couple of days for doc appointments (which are not counted) but when I miss I force myself to walk 6 miles the day before & after. It was not my goal to loose weight, but I've lost 12 lbs. And my LDL is down 25 points. Of course the weight bearing exercise with walking is great, but I've lost the resistance training. Maybe I'll start carrying weights while I walk.
-
It's never too late to join in, Minus! Great to see you here! Congratulations on the weight loss & especially the cholesterol.
Here's me and today's walking buddies.
-
MinusTwo agree w/ Ruth--it's never too late. And if you're willing to use online videos, there are a ton of resources for the resistance/strength training.
-
Pound and Zumba this morning. Later today we're going to the wedding of two our best friend's daughter. It was postponed from June. They feel they have to get it done now because the groom's stepmother is very ill and might not be around if they put it off again. North Dakota (very stupidly) has no mask rules, nor does it limit how many people can gather. It's indoors so, I am very nervous. We'll be wearing masks, do the ceremony, make as brief of a stop at the reception as possible, and get the heck out of there. Sad when fun things aren't fun anymore!😕
-
Thanks ladies. I'm not disciplined enough to sit in front of a video. However I think I'll start carrying at least one weight while I'm walking. I can switch off to work out both sides. Yup - I'll look nuts pounding the sky with a pink dumbell, but who cares.
Ruth - hope the wedding plans turn out OK. Maybe other sensible people will be wearing masks even though it's not mandatory.
-
We are meeting up with some mask wearing friends outside the chapel & we're sitting together. Hopefully there's room enough so we can stay away from unmasked people. Maybe we can hang around outside at the reception until the bridal party arrives; then zoom in, grab some cake and leave (if I am going to all this work, I really do need some cake!).
-
Ruth, oh yes, you must get a piece of cake for your efforts.
-
Heidihill, I am in awe reading (and rereading) the post about your brother. What a wonderful, brilliant man. I am so very sorry for your lost. It must be very hard. Praying for you and your family.
-
Welcome, Minus Two. This is a great group.
HeidiHill- I love your brothers philosophy; I am sorry for your loss.
Ruth- Luckily it has cooled off some because we aren’t allowed to have any fans pointing into the classroom. We can only have one blowing air out the window. That’s the extent of our room ventilation system so....
We are working on improving the nature trail behind our school and building some outdoor classroom spaces. I raked the trails for two hours today I expect to be a little sore tomorrow
Mommy- enjoy your new puppy!
-
We are!
-
Mommy - Nugget is adorable!
Heidi hill - my sincere condolences on the loss of your brother 🙏🏻
Minus - welcome to thread! I’m just back myself after having fallen off the fitness wagon some time back after a nasty case of bilateral biceps tendinitis. Tons of support here for whatever you do to keep moving, be it walking, running, gardening, vacuuming, or even walking to the mailbox and back. Glad to see you here😊
Before I forget I think I need to catch up on the past couple days. Friday was 8 hours of painting followed by 10 reps up/down a steep hill with a friend. I started referring to the reps as ‘innings’. When we get to the top for the first time we’ve just finished the top of the first inning, etc. when we finish the 10th rep at the bottom of the hill we’ve finished the ‘bottom of the 10th’🤪. Plus we have a row of 10 sticks at the top to help keep track (placed there by another girlfriend that does the same workout earlier in the day sometimes). Each time we get to the top we slide another stick over to the ‘done’ side. Silly but it works and provides a goal. So far we’ve seen deer, rabbits, squirrels (lots of black squirrels this year!), chipmunks, and dogs taking their humans for walks.
Yesterday was ‘only’ 7 hours of painting, no walk or hill workout. Wrapped up painting for the day, ordered my favorite chicken ranchero takeout pizza, picked up some groceries and settled in for an episode of ‘Endeavour’ on pbs.org.
Today is more painting, likely 6 hours to get a second coat on yesterday’s work. So far I’ve got 42 hours in from Monday through Saturday. Must return to work tomorrow so the remainder will have to be squeezed in when I can. Am exceedingly grateful for the super awesome weather we’ve had this week, it was perfect for this project!
DH returns from hunting trip on Tuesday or Wednesday. I was hoping to have the whole paint job done but it was simply more time consuming than I had planned for. Will post some before after pics after the final brush stroke
-
I am tired just reading your post, sweet!
-
The paint job is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out on the completed sections🥰🥰🥰. Five hours spent today for a total of 47 hours in the past 7 days. 20 of 33 sections (4-5 feet wide each) are complete which averages out to 2.35 hours per section so I’ve got another 30.55 hours to go - yikes! Glad I didn’t know this before I got started!
