Worried - Complex cyst, oncologist insist on 3 months check up.

Hello guys.


I'm 28 year old female. Four months ago i started feeling strong pain around right nipple and overall pains in my armpits, breasts, wrists and back. I went to my gyno and she wasn't able to find anything with hand. After insisting on an ultrasound I got a diagnosis. 6 Simple cysts in my left breasts(all under 10 mm), 1 simple cyst and 1 complex cyst (1.1cm) in right breast with FCC (fibrocystic changes i believe). My gyno referred me to oncologist for cyst removal. Pain went away and started becoming normal (I always have breast pain - at least 3 weeks a month depending days of my period). At the appointment with oncologist she assured me its fibrocystic breast condition and that the complex cyst is nothing worrying according to her readings of the ultrasound. She said no need for biopsy just regular checkups due to my great aunt having breast cancer relatively young (she was in her 40s Ibelieve). US paper said Complex cyst of breast with FCC. Another one said BIlateral cyst with FCC. She offered a check up at 3 or 6 months depending on my desire which I said i would like to do at 3 because I suffer from severe anxieties related to my health (I always think I have something). She believes pain was caused by high stress and coffee I drink too often. I was also referred to psychologist due to severe anxiety attacks.

My next check up is this friday. I wanted to move it to december since I kinda calmed down about the whole situation but my doctor is insisting on going at 3 months.

I'm so scared and worried. Why is she insisted to go on 3 months? I keep on worrying this could be worse than what she initially told me.


Any experiences?

    HI,

    Go for the 3 month visit. If you don't youre anxiety may start to get the better of you and you will be second guessing your choice to wait. You go, get reassured it's still all good and you set your next appointment for 3/6months, whatever they suggest. If she recognizes your anxiety, she probably just wants to keep a watchful eye on you to give you piece of mind. Are you scheduled for another sono?

    I see it exactly the opposite of how you see it.

    If it was worse than the doctor told you, she would have insisted on a biopsy. Biopsies are done on anything assessed to have a 2% or greater risk of cancer. So the fact that a biopsy was not recommended means the doctor believes the risk of cancer is less than 2%.

    The doctor asked you if you wanted a 3 month or 6 month follow-up. You told her that because of your severe health anxieties, you wanted the check at 3 months. I think the doctor wants you to keep the 3 month follow-up because she knows about your anxiety and is thinking that you may be delaying the appointment because you are scared. She probably wants you to have the reassurance now that everything is stable and looks fine, rather than have you wait 3 more months. I think the doctor is being considerate of you, knowing that you have health anxiety.

    I doubt you have anything to worry about - I've had lots of 6 month follow-ups for cysts and none turned out to be anything at all. Good luck next Friday, and please let us know how it goes.

    hey guys. So i had to reshedule my appointment due to some insurance issues. I decided to go with my gynecologist again and do ultrasound there so I will wait another month. Your kind words made me feel better and way less anxious. Iittle update and symptoms- last night i had strong pains around both of my nipples (mostly right), both armpits and neck. I wasnt able to sleep on my stomach or side. Today i felt better and no pain whatsoever. Ill update you guys in one month. I hope and pray things are better. Ill try to stress less because my onchologist said stress causes cystic pain. Again you arr wonderful ❤️

    Heklica, cystic breasts can be breathtakingly painful. I had some on and off issues in my 30's with fibrocystic activity so I get it. Good luck on your ultrasound and maybe they can drain the most painful ones.

    Hello ladies.

    So I just had my ultrasound today. Cysts haven't really changed, one is gone, the rest is either 1mm smaller or larger but the doctor says they are generally the same. The thing that worried me was that one simple is now complex, but to her that's not a reason to worry saying it all looks great! She suggested draining only if it hurts again and said I don't have to see an oncologist, just a check up in 6 months is recommended.

    Hopefully everything is ok. My anxieties are still there, I still can't let go of bad thoughts.

    Thank you for all your replies and help. I wish everyone in the world was healthy and never having to deal with anything bad healthwise.

    hek - It's imperative that you trust your doctor. If you don't, you should get a second opinion. Even if you do, anxiety is another beast entirely. Perhaps you can get your PCP or GYN to prescribe some short term meds to get you over this hump. Good luck.
