You are so very right! It has been a long week for some reason. And one more day to TGIF!!

I got my date for the prophy bilat mast. it will be May 7th. I think reality just hit! They are also going to do a SNB because of the high risk involved with me being BRCA2, family history etc. But, I won't be worrying down the road and I am doing all I can to prevent this nasty beast from attacking. Like my dh says, the best offense is a good defense. Just like him to put it in football terms!

Checking in early because Friday is going to be extra busy. Postive week: my first new baseline mammmogram after bc and all was normal. YEAH! And just finished a long kayak row...2 hours non stop to get ready for a race 3/24...pushed hard, but it felt good to be back really pacing myself.

And Jule: please no more freezes...we are coming up to Seattle the end of this month to see my dh son and family. Keep the warm weather coming! Or should I just pack some sunny Texas Gulf Coast weather and bring it with me?

Hi everyone! I've been away from the boards for the last several days, trying to focus a bit more on my family (I feel like I've been neglecting them some). But I read through all the posts I missed along the way, and I'm SO glad to hear that everyone is doing so well! I do have some positive news to share, too: meeting with the medical oncologist for the first time tomorrow morning. Let's get this chemo show on the road, already! I had a fabulous birthday party and indulged in all the yummy food and drink I'm not allowed for the next few months. Thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes to me last week - they were much appreciated and cherished.

    Positive Friday time!

    1) I finally have a date for my second surgery (lymph node dissection). Monday the 26th, and I'll be the first patient that day so I get to go home to my own comfy bed and kitties early on!

    2) My dear friend J has once again volunteered to chauffeur me to and from the surgery. She's been my rock all through this.

    3) I'm about to finish my Last Big Paper of the quarter. When this is turned in it will be a huge weight off my back as it's so hard to concentrate on grad-school material while in the midst of dealing with BC diagnosis. Once this paper is done I will be able to relax.

    4) Spring has sprung early here in the Bay Area and I'm listening to the birdies chirping and singing out on my deck.

Sara - nice to see you back! I'm glad your birthday was a blast and that you had some fun family times. It's good to feel like you can get away from cancer for a while.
My POSITVE for this Friday -
It's gorgeous and sunny and in the 70's here and forecast to be the same from now at least through Tuesday. I get into such a funk when it is rainy and cold. I have my first chemo on Tuesday, so my state of mind going in will be as good as it gets! Add to this that we start back on DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME this weekend and I am going to be absolutely blissful! I traditionally have a big celebratory cookout on the first newly long day, but it's going to be just for a few folks this year.
My other positive is that I get to meet for lunch on Satuday with some other San Diego area sisters from these boards. Can't wait!

Yahoo, another Friday. I just love the week-ends, being around my family, doing mom stuff. My daughter, she's 20, is coming home for spring break. We have a dinner date one day next week and than we're getting make-over's.

My 17 year old son just got voted as co-captain of the H.S. golf team, although golf may start a little later this year since we still have snow on the ground!

Crystal, glad to hear you have a date set and to get home early is great. I had to stay over-night when I had my lump. and I got ZERO sleep. I will be thinking of you.

All the rest of you, have an awesome week-end and don't forget to spring foward your clocks!

My positives can't wait for Friday!
Yesterday, I was trying to figure out what to wear for a nightie after the bilat mast because of the drains. I was talking to dh while we were at his pain management docs and the nurse overheard me. She came over and talked to me about it. She has a good friend who had the same dilemna and gave me the number and address of a local place to get all the right clothing and accessories.

OK, that was one. The other is hard to write about. One of our sisters here is the most thoughtful and kind-hearted woman I have ever had the good fortune of meeting, well not in person yet but in cyberspace and over the phone. She is doing something so special in my honor that I have no way of expressing just how much it means to me. She has been an inspiration and a wonderful person to have met.

    Beth,
What a great start to your week and its only Wensday ....you will have tons of positives to post for this week!!!!!

I have one that is special for me today....I will have my last boost treatment today....I spoke with the rad Dr. yesterday (he tracked me down because he said he is booked solid today and would be able to see me) He said unless I have some kind of trouble that I wont see him again for 3 months ....Now if I can get past the medical oncologist the 28th and have him say the same thing I will be able to start getting back to a normal life

    Take care all

    Hi all you Positive Girls!!
I know it's only thursday but yesterday was such a positive day that I couldn't wait until friday :) First of all my OncoDx came back and I am in the low group, my score was 14 and that means that my chances of recurrence somewhere else in the body, in 10 years is 9% and if I add tamoxifen to that, then it drops to 7% :) Those are good enough odds for me that I have decided to not have chemo! I am going to concentrate on losing my few extra pounds, exercising more and eating better than I was!! I feel that at least I can control those things! Hopefully, this beast is gone and will never bother me again but if it does then I will deal with it again and beat it again! It was such a relief to know that I don't have to have chemo!! Now for good news #2, my 13yo (soon to be 14yo) son has been trying out for the middle school baseball team (this is his 3rd year of trying) and he made it ! :) He is such a sports nut that this means to whole world to him!! I am sooooo proud of him!!:):) He worked so hard for it and he acheived it!!!! And my 3rd positive -- my dh and I like to go ride motorcycles ( I don't drive, I just ride with him) and last summer he had to sell his because money was a little tight then but this year his business is doing well and all he's ever dreamed about it owning a Harley Davidson --- well, he was approved to buy one and this weekend we get to go pick our color and bring it home!:) I am very excited! Spring and Fall are the best times to go riding! He is like a kid at christmas time!! Love to you all!! And I will keep you all posted!! And I will keep reading all of your posts and try to help!!

    Didn't post last week. Didn't have any positives (well I didn't think so). But . . .

One of the things that has plagued me with this is the bills. I am single and self employed with a less than full bank account. And the worry about the financial end of this was driving me insane. I was going to forego treatment so I could keep my house. With not knowing if or how much time I would lose in my work, it was really driving me insane. And the time lost to date was much more than I had anticipated.

The community I live in is having a benefit auction for me. And I am amazed at the support. I didn't realize I had touched so many and made a difference for so many. And it looks like I will be able to take the time I need to get treatment and heal without having to worry about working if I am less than on top of things.

So, two positives - I have people around me that won't let me lose, and I have made a positive commitment to have this treatment and beat this. I feel truly blessed.

So it is a positive week.

    charlie

This will only make us stronger!

    Charlie,
Im sorry you are having finacial issues, Im single myself so understand completely, but DONT EVER not doing something you need (treatment) because of money!!!!!!
My motto has always been: If There's the Will, There's the Way....and it got me through working 3 jobs, going to college and raising two kids on my own....

Ok now that Im done chewing your butt.....Im happy you have such a lovely positive for your week....its nice to feel and see the love of all those that care for you and want to help ....

PS, pm me if you need/want to talk, maybe we can put our heads together to figure out more ways to get you what you need....

    Hugs

Charlie, that's wonderful that people in your community are having a benefit for you! And what Jule said, don't you DARE put off the treatment you need! Perhaps the ACS can help with referrals?

My positive for today: I hung out with my mom, we saw Amazing Grace and had lunch! Amazing Grace is a wonderful movie and not just because of the Ioan Gruffudd babeness factor. It's well worth seeing.

    Charlie,
I, too, think it's fantastic that your community is getting together to help you. What a blessing!

As a positive for me, I should also add that I have been blessed with help coming from several different areas. I've had two different friends come and stay with me through my lumpectomy and then my mastectomy. Local friends have been more than happy to take me to appointments when I needed assistance. This is wonderful, as I don't want to over-burden my son. He will be staying with me Monday night and Tuesday night. I am having my port put in Monday and they said someone had to be with me for 24 hours, and Tuesday is my first chemo, so again it's good to have someone with me that night.

SO..... I guess my positives are great friends and son!

    Have a great weekend, guys!

Hi ladies, missed posting yesterday, I was in bed with some kind of 24 hr virus. Feeling soooo much better today.

Charlie, my thoughts are with you. I think its just awesome how your community has rallied around you. Your treatment and health are more important than anything right now.

Miss S, I will be thinking of you on Tuesday. What type of chemo will you be receiving? I did 4 AC and 4 Taxol at about the same time last year. You will be fine.

I enjoyed a wonderful week with my daughter. We did alot of fun, girly stuff. Monday, I took the day off so we had the whole house to ourselves (no boys/men at home). Wednesday, we went to Macy's to get makeover's, that was a blast! Tomorrow she goes back to school (boo hoo)

Today, my folks will be over for St. Patty's Day so I'll be cooking up a big pot of corned beef and cabbage.

Everyone, have a wonderful week-end. And to all you lovely ladies starting your treatments, kick the "C" in the you know what!!!!!!!

    Love ya.

PS. Happy St. Patrick's Day (and you don't have to be Irish to celebrate!)

    HAPPY ST. PAT'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!
I was going to post yesterday but wanted to wait until today to wish you all that .

My positive for the week: Finished rads on Wensday, YEA!!!!! Skin is healing already.

This one is kind of a strange positive but here goes....
I am single and had decided to start dating right before BC hit, of course that thru me for a loop so never proceeded with dating...
I have my first date in a very long time this Sunday.

Hope all is well with everyone, seems we've lost some of our PGC members...I need to go this morning as I have to do a 12 hr fasting blood draw at the hospital but will write more a little later today...

    Take care

Good luck on your date Jule, it is hard to not just curl up and hide in our situation. Good for you for going out and making the effort. Sorry I haven't posted lately, the Xeloda is kicking my butt with fatigue and very sore feet and I am going to ask for another dose reduction when I see my onc. Wed. I am hoping she will order scans to see how many more cycles I will have to do. Happy St. Patrick's day everyone, my positive for this week is...Spring's coming! The sun's out and I am going out to fill the bird feeders; we have juncos, finches, sparrows, woodpeckers, cardinals, bluebirds and now the robins and buzzards have appeared. Also have a Cooper's hawk in the patch of woods behind us, but he doesn't bother the birds in our yard. If you can manage it, get out and breathe the air!!
