This is not for charity but as a bumper sticker of "anger at cancer" solidarity, it's been super successful.

I've been waved down by motorists wanting to know where I got it (had to yell out the info from my window); my hubby has had women walk up to him in parking lots to say "I love your bumper sticker" , last weekend he was walking into the shopping area and heard one woman yelling to another one "LOOK AT THE CANCER STICKER ON THE WHITE VAN!!!!" & we were the white van; a cancer Canada free rides for cancer treatment volunteer car honked in traffic to say hello etc.

I have a Metavivor shirt that I wore last October. I may have to get a new one for this year.

DogMomRunner, I just want to say thank you for wearing the shirt, and recognizing that everyone, all stages, should work together for everyone’s sake.

ShetlandPony is right, too little attention is focused on the plight of Stage IV people.

It's a fundraiser that keeps pink charity employees in a job and funnels 30% of takings to research.

Basically, though, it's a marketing exercise and a false celebration.

Because Unfortunately the plight of stage IV people could become the plight of any stage I, II, or III person.

Traveltext, you are a longtime champion for men with breast cancer, another ignored and marginalized group, as well as a great advocate for people with stage iv. Thank you!

Moth's new phrases prompt me to ask our BCO members, What phrases or messages do you think would be most effective in forwarding the quest for a more accurate conception of breast cancer and the directing of money to helping bc patients and furthering research toward better treatments and even cures, rather than perpetuating the pink marketing machine?

P.S. Clever use of the ribbon on that bumper sticker!

I apologize for hijacking with the chemo shirts, I realize that wasn't the original intent of your thread, SP.

Think Before You Pink is a nice, catchy slogan, I thought it might be connected to the group that made the film “Pink Ribbons Inc" so I checked the trademark database and they do hold a trademark on it.

The group is Breast Cancer Action (also trademarked) and I was curious about them and what they've done besides make the film, so I went to their site.

it seems they exist mainly to criticize the pink ribbon movement but do not use any funds to further research or to directly aid cancer patients. Looks like they do some lobbying on environmental issues which they believe are connected to cancer but other than that, not too much else that's constructive in my opinion.

They have a donation campaign called Don't Pink For Me, another good slogan that they have trademarked, but they don't seem to be selling merch at this time, just collecting donations.

Its still okay to use Think Before You Pink in your forum sig 😉

I just found it a little ironic that they're kind of diverting donations away from more constructive charities which is the same thing they criticize the awareness campaigns for. (Unless I am missing something...if anyone knows more about this org, please correct me

No worries, Olma. Interesting that you looked up Breast Cancer Action; I was just wondering about what they do with the money they raise. Directly helping cancer patients and funding research that actually can result in better treatments/cures are also my priorities when it comes to donating. That said, I do think the organization and others with similar goals served us very well in helping raise our own knowledge and empowerment regarding the problems with fundraising for “awareness” and merchandise sales that do very little good. I see a difference from when I first started this bc game in 2011 to now. Besides personally feelIng more able to articulate what we need, and I see less stupidity and more useful action even from the original pink groups. It is a movement that has had some success.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe they were part of the movement against Myriad holdinga patent on BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 testing.

That's a positive thing, looks like you’re correct. Found this on their site, from2018.

Wearing an anti-pink t-shirt seems like playing into the same nonproductive scheme as wearing a pink ribbon. Although SO tempting. When I get the chance I do say that 20% to 30% of 5 year survivors have a metastatic recurrence....and that stat is a guess because recurrences aren't tracked by researchers or drug conpanies. Guess they don't want their "cures" to look like failures.
My hair has grown back in and my current target therapy drugs do not cause hair loss or I'd definitely get one of those hats "oncologist does my hair".

I would hope that wearing an anti-pink shirt could be a conversation starter.

Thank you! Ok, now a confession. A couple years ago I was in an elevator that had a flyer with a big pink ribbon posted, and I took out a black pen and fixed it up to look like your ribbon, and wrote the notes, too. I also added the black and a dot of blue to a pink ribbon pin I have.

This is very cool. Did you ever have it printed up on anything? It would be great to put on business cards, post cards or coasters and hand them out at events or at the cancer center, etc. or flyers, but cards are easier to spread around.

I love that ribbon traveltext, and love that you altered a poster Shetland. I have been messing around on photoshop designing a shirt that has been on my mind. Can I share the image here to get opinions ( which really kinda makes me nervous😬)

Dani, how perfect! Although I'd like to hear Traveltext weigh in on a possible version that would be inclusive of men with breast cancer. An additional version, not a replacement, because yours is awesome.

Hi there! Newly diagnosed. Don't know staging yet haven't had surgery. Anyway...this will be my first Pinktober as a Breast cancer patient soon to be survivor. I never could get behind the whole pink ribbon thing thought it tried to sexualize breast cancer plus being in the retail world, I knew it was all too tied to making money not actually helping fund research!

Would love some ideas for shirts/car magnets on the anti-pink message!

    Thanks all!!

Alice, thank you. I too would love to hear his ideas! I will be thinking about it too. It will help me pass the time. I am still off work recovering from surgery, I am getting bored😁.

Crsharper- I am sorry about your diagnosis, I cringe when I see the shirts that sexualize breast cancer. They have a golf tournament in my town and it is mostly men participating and it is a save the ta- tas golf tournament 😡. Makes me sick to see all of them posing and smiling in their shirts. I am no graphic designer but I would be happy to share my design. I Know on zazzle.com you can get your own image printed on many different things. I wish you the best as you navigate your upcoming treatment. We are all here for you💙.
