edited September 2020 in Waiting for Test Results

hello.

I’m trying to find someone that has had the same symptoms than me and that can comfort me somehow. Since mid August I have had swelling, redness, warmth to the touch, tenderness and small part of my skin has the Peau d’Orange. I did go to my doctor right away she diagnosed it as a skin infection (breast cellulitis) and gave me antibiotics for two weeks. Although I saw improvement the infection didn’t go away completely. I still feel some warmth and see some swelling and redness. She then switched my meds for another two weeks and I asked her to do a punch biopsy just to rule out IBC. So now I’m waiting for results from the biopsy and checking my breast daily to see some improvement which I’m not convinced it is getting better. It is just there. Has anyone have had an breast infection that was hard to get rid of??

Eigna - as several people commented in your other threads - QUIT LOOKING. Quit poking. Best to just keep your eyes & hand off. Yes, lots of people have hard to cure infections - of the breast & eyes & mouth & stomach - even athlete's foot. If this were not your breasts, it's unlikely you would be as anxious. Hope the biopsy comes out OK. No matter what, hope you are looking for help with health anxiety.

No - that wasn't my intent. I'm concerned about your health anxiety and would really like to see you get some help. It can't be good for you to be under this stress all the time. Do you have a PCP that might recommend a psychologist to talk to? Or order some anti-anxiety meds?

And please, do let us know what happens with the biopsy. Everyone is concerned after following your threads.

Edited to add - we wouldn't be here or answer posts if we didn't care.

Eigna, infections can take a long time to heal. It could be the antibiotic isn't correct. Since you saw some improvement initially that kind of suggests that there was some sort of infectious process going on. It might just be that neither of the meds are correct or it needs a longer course. Do you get your biopsy results next week? Waiting is hard but just try to distract yourself.

Eigna, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with what appears to be a stubborn infection. It sounds frustrating to see some, but not complete, resolution. As others have pointed out it can take a while for the abx to work, and In some cases trying different abx until you hit on the right one. It’s hard not to go to a dark place after our diagnosis, though - but it sounds like you’re on the right track with more antibiotics and a biopsy. Please do let us know how that turns out.

You asked if anyone had struggled with an infection, and I can tell you I did, a few years ago after my DIEP. I spent a couple weeks in-and-out of the hospital, multiple different antibiotics, and eventually a two-week at-home course of IV abx (I had my port) for an antibiotic-resistant super-bug. It was both frustrating and scary, and I sometimes wondered if I was dealing with something “more” than an infection. Eventually it all resolved, it just took time.

Hang in there; it’s okay to be thoughtful and concerned, try not to panic and freak out though. Our treatments can leave our bodies vulnerable to a host of infectious agents just waiting to hop in and take over. It takes time to heal, and this infection might take a little longer than you want it to.

Yes hurray! It’s just an infection. I’m on my second round of antibiotics...still not completely gone ! How much more antibiotics am I supposed to take. I’m wondering if it’s possible to have an abscess but not visible? Anyway I still have one more week of antibiotics to take. Then I will see the doctor again. Wondering if I should do an ultrasound....
