Waiting on diagnostic mammo
I had my mammo and report says
1. right upper breast, 12:00 position, 3 cm from nipple, middle depth, there is an asymmetry measuring 1.9 cm
2. No Mammographic evidence of malignancy in the left breast.
I have had mammograms since 2006 and I have never had a call back. I have heterogeneously dense breasts. My last mammo was 1 year and 8 months ago, according to the report. They compared my mammo to the last two which were 2D and this one was 3D TOMO.
I have been scheduled for diagnostic mammo and possible ultrasound for 9/16, the earliest opening they had.
I have a family history of breast cancer so I’m so worried.
Thanks for listening!

Hi Emptynest,
We understand where you are and the worry, and we're here for you. It may be helpful to discuss your family history with your physician, and see if you would qualify or be interested in genetic testing as well.
Please keep us posted.

Thank you for your reply!😀
I was wondering if I posted this on the wrong board, since I didn’t get many responses?
I love these forums and want to do it right!
Thanks in advance

Hi Emptynest!
Things can get slow on the boards on the weekends, so don't read anything into the lack of responses.
It's interesting that this is your first 3D mammo. My Breast Care Center switched from 2D to 3D a few years ago, and I was called into see the radiologist after my first 3D mammo. It turned out to be nothing.
Yes, having a family history of breast cancer can make scans extra worrisome. Just try to stay busy until your diagnostic mammo. If you want to get in sooner, you might leave word with the nurses at your facility that you'd be interested in coming in earlier if there is a cancellation.

Thank you Elaine! My husband is retired active duty, so I don’t get a choice on appointments, it’s whatever is available!
Thank you for responding to my post, I really appreciate it

Emptynest - Elaine is right. The boards can be slow on the weekends - especially a holiday weekend.
I was called back every year for additional diagnostic mammo & ULS for 35+ years before I was diagnosed with DCIS. I was glad to have the additional reassurance. Hope that's what you'll find.
