22, afraid of IBC
Hi, I am new to this forum, but I have been lurking around and reading some of the topics.
I know that the commin thing to say is that I should go for a check-up, but I really just want some opinions first.
First of, I am 22 years old with hypochondria. I fear have breast cancer, and constsntly checks myself for symptoms.
It all started when I experienced severe breasts soreness ten days prior to my menstruation. It was so severe that I ended up searching, and of course, I came into the possibility of breast cancer. That scared the shit out of me.
My menstruation came and the soreness went away already, but I am still scared to the point that I regularly check my breasts to look for any changes.
Three days ago, I got a really itchy rash under my left breast. It is bumpy like of a heat rash, and I am certain that the itch comes from the outside of the skin, and not inside. But still, I am worried.
This has been for three days already. The itch will subside, but sometimes, it will be back, especially when I am sweaty. And it wanes off when I put an oil on it. It comes and goes.
Should I be worried about this? To those who have IBC, did your symptom similar to mine?
Thank you, I really am just freaking out, and my family thinks I am overreacting.

If you are worried about an on-again off-again skin itch for three days you should see your doctor, but I don’t at all understand how you arrived at IBC for an itch. As the NCI chart below shows, only 1.9% of all female breast cancers of all types are diagnosed at age 34 or younger. IBC is very rare

Hi Erindesu,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues that are worrying you, however they do not sound like IBC.
The tenderness sounds like something menstrual related, the rash sounds like a skin issue. My IBC skin issues were nothing like a heat rash, and you would not expect pain to be in both breasts, which from your posts it sounds like it is.
Stop worrying and see a doctor if the rash persists. Worrying accomplishes nothing and is not good for your health!
Take Care,
Blue

Should you be worried about this?
From what you describe, NO.
The pain that you describe that started you off on your breast concerns sounds to be completely normal pre-menstrual pain. So nothing to worry about there.
The rash you describe, based on your own words, sounds like heat rash. You say it looks like heat rash and it acts like heat rash, subsiding when your breast is cool and dry and coming back when you are sweaty. IBC would not do that. The rash lessens with ointment. IBC would not do that.
It sounds like you have heat rash or some similar skin condition. If it doesn't clear up in a week or so with normal care, see your PCP or a dermatologist.
From what you describe, the only concern you have with your breasts is in your mind. If your hypochondria is starting to impact your life, it's best to see a counselor about that now, before it gets worse.

Start with your GYN doc who can do an exam and request further testing if she thinks it is necessary as well. They also may be able to help with anything that may help some of your problems your are having if it is nothing that requires testing further I know i tis hard not to worry too much. Try not to google too much either until you get further direction.
Best wishes to you!

Have you tried athlete's foot cream? I've had rashes like that and it's the best way to treat them because it's fungal. If that doesn't work, make an appointment with a dermatologist because it's a skin issue. If you had a rash on your knee, you'd see a dermatologist rather than an orthopedic specialist, correct?

Hi, thank you everyone for replying back. I appreciate all of the feedback.
And yeah, I really am just worried because I don't know- I might have searched way too much that it scares the hell out of me. To be honest, if I know nothing, this simple rash would not even be a problem.
Anyway, my question is- if it is IBC, would the itchiness come and go? I used some powder to ease it, and it worked. It is not that itchy anymore, and not that blotchy anymore, but there's still an evident pinkish rash. That's what I'm worried about.
Tried googling pictures of BC rashes, and I really can't tell the difference.
Though, I'm trying my best to be positive about this one. I will give it a week. If it does not wane off, I will consult a doctor.
Hoping for the best.

Stop googling pictures of IBC. No, if it were IBC itch wouldn’t come and go. You have a heat rash or similar.
