Oh wow...I thought I was the only one who wondered what the hell Trump was saying when he said "plasma"--HIS version of the pronunciation, that is!

Miss Pantaloon looks like my cat Max. He took the TP and bleach with hime when he self isolated under the bathroom sink.
-
It's so great to see Washington DC serving as the location for an event for which it is perfectly suited......in stark contrast to the RNC "event" last night.....Donald Trump's ultimate masturbatory moment.......

BlueGirl, your Max and my Pantaloon are indeed wise beyond words.....love the photo!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said this when asked to define defunding the police:
“The good news is that it actually doesn't take a ton of imagination.
It looks like a suburb. Affluent white communities already live in a world where they choose to fund youth, health, housing etc more than they fund police. These communities have lower crime rates not because they have more police, but bc they have more resources to support healthy society in a way that reduces crime.
When a teenager or preteen does something harmful in a suburb (I say teen bc this is often where lifelong carceral cycles begin for Black and Brown communities), White communities bend over backwards to find alternatives to incarceration for their loved ones to "protect their future," like community service or rehab or restorative measures. Why don't we treat Black and Brown people the same way? Why doesn't the criminal system care about Black teens' futures the way they care for White teens' futures? Why doesn't the news use Black people's graduation or family photos in stories the way they do when they cover White people (eg Brock Turner) who commit harmful crimes? Affluent White suburbs also design their own lives so that they walk through the world without having much interruption or interaction with police at all aside from community events and speeding tickets (and many of these communities try to reduce those, too!)
Just starting THERE would be a dramatically and radically different world than what we are experiencing now.
I think that is a great explanation of how important where you live is to your life expectations.

Bluegirl, I'm watching Midsomer Murders on Amazon Prime. Each episode is about 90 minutes long so they can really develop the plot. It's 21 seasons, going on 22). It has the same main characters (although they change up over time, they are all very engaging). It's a good distraction. DH & I have been watching an episode most nights since the pandemic thing started.

New post on Margaret and Helen
GET OFF OUR LAWN: The case by an angry, old lady for why Donald Trump doesn't deserve your vote.
Margaret, I look at this picture and I am disgusted. I know I'm supposed to be upset about the Hatch Act. I get it. The law is the law and even the President isn't above the law. We've been there. We've done that. And Mitch McConnell told us the law and the constitution needed to take a back seat because Donald Trump is just too important. Screw national security. Screw the Hatch Act. Screw the Constitution.
You know why I am mad when I look at that picture? The real reason? It's not the Hatch Act. It's not impeachment. It's not who is leading in the polls and who isn't. It's not about blue beating red or red beating blue. I am pissed off because America and Americans deserve better.
America hasn't solved the pandemic yet and Americans are still dying by the thousands.
America hasn't opened back up for business yet and Americans are holding on by a thread.
Parents want their kids back in school. Teachers want to feel safe.
Business owners want to return to business as usual. Customers want to shop. God how I just want to go out to dinner and see a movie.
Children want to visit their aging parents in nursing homes. And Grandparents want desperately to hug and kiss our grandchildren one more time.
How dare you. How dare you, Mr. President. We are out here in America doing EVERYTHING we can to NOT get or spread this disease. And some of us are doing it without knowing if we will be able to pay our rent next week. We are wearing masks. We are social distancing. We are making sacrifices every day in hopes that we can reduce the number of deaths. For me 1,000 deaths were too many much less 200,000.
Every other first world country has gotten this thing under control and here we are still leading the world in cases and deaths. That's not success. That's failure. You want to blame this city or that state. You want to blame this Mayor or that Congressman. How is that helping anything? We needed to work harder at this. We needed to ALL come together and do what was needed to be done.
And then you do this? You bring a thousand of your fans together without masks, without any precautions whatsoever? And then you put it on television and rub our noses in it with a million dollars' worth of fireworks? Fuck the Hatch Act. I don't give three shits about the Hatch Act. Screw it. And SCREW YOU MR. PRESIDENT.
We are out here dying. Quite literally dying. Over five thousand of us died just during your little show. And what do you do? You announce to God and country that you don't care. You don't bare any responsibility. You can do whatever you want whenever you want because, in your world, pandemic or not, being President is more important than being American. While we are struggling and yes, afraid, and you throw a party.
I didn't watch last night. I didn't listen to your speech. I am tired of your lies and the people who lie for you. But I saw the pictures. I saw the gathering and the hugs and the cheers and the absence of masks. And here I sit doing my small part to help America recover. And today I am sicker than I have ever been. My heart is broken. My brain is tired. And I am out of my mind with anger.
Your selfishness is killing people. You don't deserve our votes. You don't deserve to breathe the same air we breathe. In your America 200,000 people are dead and it didn't have to be that way. In your America children are rioting in the streets begging for justice and it didn't have to be that way. In your America whites are told to fear blacks and blacks are told that equality isn't a right but rather a reward for good behavior. You are rigth Mr. President. You and your family said it all week long. I hate YOUR America. It's an awful, shameful, disgusting place to live.
To be clear, it is Trump's America. It is not Barack Obama or Joe Biden's America. YOU are the President. YOU. Donald J. Trump. HEY SIRI. WHO IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES? ALEXA. WHO IS THE 45TH PRESIDENT?
It's YOU. It's all you. I look at that picutre and I realize that everything bad with our nation isn't because of Republicans or Democrats or white people or brown people or black people. I am so tired of being afraid of my neighbors. I am so sick of looking at Facebook and wondering who is going to piss off who. It's not them. It's not us. I look at that picuture and I realize, it's you.
I can't wait for Joe Biden's America. I am begging for Joe Biden's America. WE ARE DYING FOR JOE BIDEN'S AMERICA.
Go back to your castle in the sky, Mr. Trump. Go back to your palace in Florida. Go back to your nice life with your pretty wife and your perfect children. Go back and please take Rudy, Mitch, Lindsey, Marco, Mike, and the rest of them with you. Go now so the healing can begin.
This great nation of ours will survive you, Mr. Trump. But as God as my witness, I pray that your Presidency doesn't survive us this November. I mean it. Really.

I would like to hug Helen but can't due to Covid, can't shake her hand either, can't fist bump so will have to settle for a virtual hug, an elbow bump and my intense gratitude for calling out what's wrong with DT's America. The sacrifices I am making, and for most of you as well, are so we can survive to enjoy a nicer, brighter America even if it means wearing a mask. I want to survive to see my grandchildren grow up.
So to quote Scarlett O'Hara " As God is my witness..." I hope his presidency ends in flames just like those from Gone with the Wind.

Have been away most of the day so no memes and only a couple of things I wanted to share. Saw the Dan Rather piece the morning before we left for Marion V. A. Came back for a cup of coffee this afternoon but had to take up almost immediately to do some things -- then while down-loading more of what I missed thru the day , along came Margaret and Helen. I will get a quote for tomorrow even though I missed today.
As usual, I'm ambivalent. I hated what little I saw ( recaps ) of Trump's speech. He is dull, dry, and witless as a teleprompter reader. He must have demanded a good, long speech from whomever was given the job to write it for him. Dh and I kept switching back and forth ( we have a LAST button on our remote that give you what you were watching before you switched ) between 790 and 755. First is News second if HGTV. Almost gave up. I started to have visions of our last channel switching after we were bleary-eyes and it was after 1 a.m. Fortunately that didn't happen, but I did wonder. So, I veer between hoping there are enough of us left after the ravages of the disease Trump chose to LET kill us off and wondering ( God forgive me ) if he lost a lot of the Reps. voters too. What lousy thoughts to have. I don't want anyone to have to DIE for politics and yet here we are. Margaret was right -- we all need to get along and help each other through. We just have to get smart about just who is doing what. And finally hope there is enough of us left. I do think though Democrats will work hard to come out in big numbers. We are all soooo tired of it and want it stopped.
Enough of the rant for now. I'll go find a couple of other things and then off to bed. My little mini-vacation is done and its back to work tomorrow.

Great memes.
I'm getting out of town for the day. I saw on social media that for the 3rd week in a row, there's another car/truck rally for Trump planned for this afternoon and this time it's going through my town and a couple others north of here. No way I'm sitting in my house or puttering around in the yard while these losers cruise through the neighborhood with flags flying.
Hearing of these rallies, the phrase "get a life!" always comes to mind. The term originated in an SNL skit when William Shatner says it to a group of immature "Trekkies" , Star Trek fans, who don't appear to have anything better to do than be hyper-focused on insignificant minutia. "Trumpies" need to get a life.

In this world, the optimists have it, not because they are always right, but because they are positive. Even when they are wrong they are positive, and that is the way of achievement, correction, improvement, and success. Educated, eye-open optimism pays. -David Landes

Thank you for the Margaret and Helen post! I really needed that!!

Unbelievable. What won’t he do next. -
Trump has no morals, few standards unless it is demands for himself, and I thin has proven that he will push every boundary line as far as he possibly can. Sadly, the people who by oath are supposed to enforce checks and balances choose to enable Trump's progress. Woe be unto the whole darn bunch of them. I did hear that there might be a fair amt. of push back on what Trump did. I look on it as just another thing he likely wouldn't have "thought" of doing without the lackeys in his swamp figuring that out as one of his next steps.
It is likely going to be a super rough two months as every dirty trick that side can think to do will come rolling down the pike. Hopefully we won't back up and will applying ALL the pressure we can.
