    Hi Everyone!

I'm hoping you all may have some insight for me. In Dec. 2019 I had a mammogram, followed by an ultrasound (heterogeneously dense breasts) and on my left breast found the following:"0.9 x 0.8 x 0.9 cm irregular hypoechoic mass with indistinct and angulated margins and posterior acoustic shadowing is present at 2 o'clock, 6 cm from the nipple. This corresponds to focal asymmetry on mammogram." Bi-Rads: 4

I had a biopsy, which was diagnosed as benign stromal fibrosis: "The specimen demonstrates benign breast ducts and lobules without cytologic or architectural atypia in a background of stroma with mild stromal fibrosis. The history of mass is noted but no discrete mass lesion is appreciated; possibly the fibrotic stroma is the reason for the radiographic impression of a mass. Correlation with radiographic and clinical findings is required to determine if the lesion was adequately sampled."

This was discordant and I was referred to a surgeon for excisional biopsy. He recommended an MRI, which found nothing: "No suspicious or indeterminate findings. No abnormal enhancement or mass corresponding with the previously biopsied benign stromal fibrosis in the 2:00 position left breast, which can have a masslike appearance on ultrasound."

Two weeks ago I had my follow-up and the mass appears to have increased in size and the radiologist again referred me to a surgeon: "Interval growth of a suspicious 1.3 cm mass in the left breast at 2 o'clock, 6 cm from the nipple. This was previously biopsied and results were benign and discordant. Previous MRI was also performed, which was reportedly benign; however, given interval growth of the lesion, surgical consultation for excisional biopsy is recommended. I have discussed this case personally with Dr. XYZ." Bi-Rads: 4C

I am having the excisional biopsy next week and wanted to get some feedback from the knowledgeable folks here. My logical side is telling me that this is indeed benign fibrosis and that the recommended removal is to be cautious and in order to not miss something that could be potentially dangerous. I do wonder if I even need the mass excised if all the other tests are benign.

Anyone out there with a similar story? Thoughts on if I need this surgery

Thank you all for your support!
