Had MRI and anxious

hi, I actually posted something similar in a different thread but want to ask for others experiences.

So during my surgeon consult on Thursday, he commented that he thought the biopsy was taken from a different place to the lump I showed him.. that I feel with my fingers. This makes me concerned that there is more cancer and what was biopsied was just a part of it and what I actually feel is another part. My results came back grade 1.... if there is more cancer will it all be grade 1 or can you have different grades?

Just anxious. Thank you.

There can be more than one grade.

If your biopsy found grade 1, it's unlikely that the final pathology will find grade 3 - maybe just a bit of lower grade 2 thrown into the mix.

ok thank you. The lump I feel, seems bigger than the size they found. I know there’s nothing I can do but wait. Just worried that they missed the actual lump during ultrasound and found a smaller tumor first and focused on that. Nothing was picked up on mammogram due to dense tissue and me still being a nursing mom

Well, remember that you're also feeling your skin and other dermal layers and other breast tissue besides the lump, so of course it feels larger than what appears on the imaging

My tumor measured bigger on mri than the ultrasound. Less than 2 weeks apart. Has this happened to anyone else? It was 6mm and 11mm. Other two areas are 5mm each on MRI. I’m really stressed about this and the size difference. Hard day today.

Now have two ultrasound guided biopsies on Monday and if they don’t go well, mri assisted on the 31st for the 2 other masses.

MO started me on Tamoxifen today.

Yes. Mammogram showed 8mm. MRI showed 25mm. And it was in fact 25 mm.

I had an additional spot show up on the MRI. With a MRI guided biopsy we found it to be a papilloma (benign).

You need to keep in mind that these screenings work in different ways...so it’s not necessarily that it’s growing. It’s just presenting in a different way.

It is not uncommon for a doctor to order both to be done so they can make sure they are sure in their advice on the best treatments available to their patients. Be assured they are just trying to help you and not that it is worse. Best wishes to you.

Kathabus - thank you for sharing your experience. It alarmed me that perhaps it had grown in such a short time. It makes sense that it was bigger to begin with because that’s more what I can feel.

Bc- thank you for your response. Yes I suppose everything it’s making me anxious and I am equating more tests to more bad news. My emotions have really been on a rollercoaster. Today I am feeling a little better :)

    hey lady,

my tumor was slightly bigger on mri than us (10 vs 8 mm), and both of those are smaller than the palpable, visible, lump, which to me looks/feels more like 2-3cm. Really don't think yours has grown; as far as i can tell, us tends to underestimate, and mri overestimate, so the difference is in an expected direction.

    hang in there!

dread - thank you so much. It’s hard to know what is typical and I think anything I am not expecting stresses me out. I have been learning and reading more and really praying and hoping my 2 biopsies can be performed vis ultrasound as scheduled tomorrow. If they can’t find one or both, then it will be mri the next week.

I hope you are doing better
