Mammogram after DIEP

Greetings to all!

I had DIEP in October 2019. (I love it and my flat tummy! So take that post cancer body!)

Now, how do I move forward with testing? Before the surgery I had silicones and did not continue to have mammograms, (this may or may not have been the correct choice) I did it once per a doctor's request and it was awkward, painful and just confusing for me.

Thanks for any help /suggestions or personal testimonies you are willing to share with me!

    Welcome GodsGrace. Sounds like your DIEP Flap surgery went well and you are happy with the results. You no longer have to schedule yearly mammograms because there is not any breast tissue left. I see my Oncologist every six months and she does breast exams and really examines the area of my original tumor bed and my lymph nodes. You should continue to do self breast examines yourself. You have new breasts and you need to be aware of any changes...

    I had two small lumps appear about six months after my surgery on my left breast very close to my tumor bed and many nodes. I felt sure that they were fat necrosis/scar tissue. I went back to my BS and he too was confident that is was scar tissue but he played it by the book and sent me to the breast center for a sonogram and they did a mammogram too and it was fatty scar tissue. When I went back to my PS for some touch up work he removed those and all is well.

    I second Bella's post . No more mammograms for me because I no longer have mammos to gram😏
