Arizona Peoples 🌵 Surgeons For Reconstruction
Hi!
I looked in the Arizona forum which only had two replies and hasn't been updated for awhile so I hope it's okay to post here.
Scottsdale area. Had my BMX straight to implants in Jan 2019 and need to have them redone. I've been all over so many PS websites and I need to narrow it down. Hoping to find some local people who might have recommendations and possibly photos of someone they loved. Thanks in advance and hope everyone's doing well in these crazy times! 😍

Hi DesertPup, Can I ask why you need to have your implants redone after such a short time? I had my surgery on 12/11/19 straight to implants with nipple sparing, skin sparing surgery. I did have to undergo radiation and finished 30 treatments 3/25.
Rimma Finkel did my reconstruction and I am very pleased. She is in Chandler near Chandler Regional Hospital.

Hi! Sure you can ask. It's a few things really. 1. They're too big for comfort. I was VERY clear and specific that I wanted nothing larger than a B-Small C. They're D's. 2. The left side that was radiated is rock hard and my radiologist said it will stay that way. 3. They're too far apart and do not look right to me.
Just not comfortable with the outcome. The surgeon that performed the surgery is a nice guy but did not listen at all and even now, gets an attitude that I want a change. I'd rather move on and look for a better fit. What about yours are you pleased with? And thanks!

DesertPup, Do you know how many CCs you have and what type of implant? How long would say the initial swelling lasted after surgery and radiation? I feel I am still swollen in both, but definitely the left one is harder and firmer. Did your PS recommend singulair during radiation? Apparently, it is supposed to help the implant. My skin did fairly well with radiation (clavicle a spot in the center of my neck was a bit red) I saw my PS the same day radiation ended and she said all the swelling, lumps, etc was normal and I should continue to massage them. I am experiencing a bit more heaviness and pain, but nothing bad. I think my implants are a bit large as well, but she said to give them a full six months to settle in where they need to. She said she'd make me look as normal as possible, but she may have gone a bit bigger than I would have, but overall, I am fine with them and hope that the hardness lessens as time goes on. The only scars I have are about half moon on the top of my aerolas and they are fading already. I am praying that I won't have to have a revision surgery and was so happy I could go straight to implants in my DMX surgery. Dr. Finkel has an office in Phoenix as well.. 20033 N. 19th Ave Ste 108 Phoenix, AZ 85027 480-963-3034

I went to Ali Mosharrafa for my reconstruction. Breast surgeon did nipple and skin sparing mastectomies.. I need to have a revision of my implants at the end of summer. Also had radiation to left breast. It isn't much different from the right. Just have to say that it is difficult surgery to do. That is direct to implants. I am very happy with my plastic Surgeon

I was recently diagnosed and had BMX with TEs 2 weeks ago, and have been seeing Dr. Oren Tessler for my reconstruction. He has an office in Gilbert. He does surgeries at Honor Deer Valley. So far I have had a good experience with him. Will be having DIEP flap sometime in the summer hopefully once COVID19 is gone. Good luck.

Hi,
I'm not sure the cc's off the top of head. No singulair script and my radiologist and cancer surgeon said the sewelling is pretty much id done. Thank you for the reply and I hope you do well in recovery! I'll keep you posted.

I've heard good things about him. Why the redo though?

Thank you! Haven't heard of him but will look at his website. You doing okay?

I used Dr Mahabir in Scottsdale, he's with Dr Gawley. I can't say enough good things about him. My surgery went smoothly, he listened and they actually might look better than before. I'm happy to send you some pictures if you'd like. They do not take a lot of insurance plans so be careful with that.
-
Hi! I actually met with them and ended up going another direction. I think I should I meet with him again. Did they meet with you together like they did with me?
-
no I still haven’t met Gawley.

DesertPup, I used Mayo for most of my treatment including reconstruction and am less than pleased with my aesthetic outcome, though I might be picky. My rads side is higher and the nipple looks weird due to CC from rads and my last revision did nothing to alleviate that. My implants are I think 220(?)ccs. I'm happy to send you pictures. Who did you use originally? I am also looking for a new PS.
-
Hi! The cc are 545 on the left and 525 on the right. D cups. Which is 1000% not what I communicated I wanted at least 10 times. I wanted a smaller chest a c at the most. I wish they would told me that the radiation would harden the area. I would have waited. Good thing we get a redo huh? The surgeon was Clay Forsberg in Scottsdale. I went with the recommendation from a friend of a friend who actually turned out to be a total weirdo anyway so... LOLOL! Lesson learned.

It's really hard to choose doctors because there's just no data out there on patient outcomes. You can get recommendations, but results are going to vary depending on what kind of reconstruction you have and what you have to work with. I'm pretty thin so I didn't have a lot of options, and frankly I think women as small and thin as me needing breast reconstruction are few and far between. You may have been given large implants because they didn't have smaller ones in the width you needed. My PS put in the biggest implants that filled the pockets, and those wound up being way too narrow and round and looked ridiculous. But flatter, wider implants weren't available so she went with the best fit she had on hand, I guess. Anyway, I was considering seeing Dr. Mahabir, but I want to wait until maybe next year when all the radiation damage should be final. I'd like to get a complete capsulectomy to get rid of the hardening, but I don't know if that will be possible.

Makes sense. I don't recall my surgeon going int that much detail and this being my first rodeo, I didn't think to ask. I'll keep you posted! I really feel I can this sorted out and be happy. Hopefully!

I absolutely love my breast surgeon - Dr. Patricia Clark. I think she was named a Phoenix Managzine Top Doc too.
