Hi everyone, I know October is far off, but I thought I would start a thread for it. I am scheduled on October 7th for my Diep Flap surgery at the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery in New Orleans. Dr. Dellacroce will be doing my reconstruction. I really wanted to have him do it and October was his first available opening. I have read so many positive reviews about the center, and the Dr.'s there. So far, all my communications with them have gone very smoothly. It was a tough decision for me as I am choosing having a bi-lateral mastectomy because of a LCIS diagnosis, and family history. But I know I am doing the right thing for me.

I am scheduled for my Diep flap surgery in November. I had a bilateral mastectomy in Feb of 2018 and due to a few other surgeries I had to put off the reconstruction until now.

I’m 70 and just want to feel normal again. The prosthetics are uncomfortable, hot and a nuisance.

My Dr. has done over 1200 of these surgeries and I will have mine at the Froedtert Medical College Hospital in Milwaukee. He will take my tissue from my belly where there is plenty to use. Somewhat of a tummy tuck which is a plus.

I’m anxious to hear how your surgery goes. My Doctor said 6-8 weeks of recovery with little to no lifting and minimal movement while healing. I will also most likely have a second surgery after 4-6 months to liposuction more tissue to fill in. He also said then I can decide to have him construct a nipple or just have it tattooed.

If anyone has already done this same procedure I’d love to hear your story. I’m not nervous about this because I have complete faith in my Surgeon.

    Thanks much,

    Janie

    Hi Jane2310!

Thanks for sharing your story. I will certainly keep you updated on my surgery and progress. I am 55 and also have plenty of belly tissue...lol. I was diagnosed with LCIS in June and made my decision shortly after to just have the BMX. The closer the surgery date comes the more I am getting nervous, although I know it is asolutely the right decision for me. I will be traveling from NY to New Orleans which brings on a whole new set of anxiety because of COVID, but there is no one in my area of NY that does it, and I too have faith the Dr. doing it. My second surgery is scheduled for January of next year. I have been reading so many posts here and just trying to prepare as best I can.

    Thanks,

    Laura

    Laura,

I also decided to dothe Bilateral even though my left breast had no cancer. I figured once was enough to go through this.

I’ll check in once and a while to see how you are doing. Is great to have a surgeon that is one of the best. Don’t be nervous.....there are so many with great results.

By next summer we will both be in “real” swim suits. 😂

    Wishing you all the best!

    Janie
