It’s odd what these drugs do to us. I had bloodwork done, port flush, and Xgeva shot yesterday, and on the bloodwork I was very surprised to see my sodium was low. What? All I eat seems to have salt in it, so I was very puzzled by that.
Anyone else experience bloodwork oddities?
Mae, I meant to say I’m glad for you the gamma knife radiation is over. Do you have to go again? Sorry, I am not familiar with that procedure. Hoping it’s all done!
-
Morning all.
Tanya- Drink, drink, drink. Take care.
Mae- Good that radiation went well. Get phone fixed and come back to us soon!
Mel- Keep sewing those masks!!! Glad you are having fun with it.
Doing stuff around the house today. Another hot day here-- dog days of summer. Yuck. Ready for cool, crisp fall days.
-
Booboo, my bloodwork always shows low sodium too, even if my blood pressure comes back normal. It's weird. My MO says that in my case, it likely had something to do with the brain met situation. I also eat a fair amount of sodium.
I am taking a rest day on my butt. I had my chemo yesterday and having the usual rundown feeling today. I also was in bed later than I should have been and walked 4 times yesterday. I think my body is saying you need to stop today. So I will. Reading, surveys and laundry will fill my day. All things I enjoy. Might make some pasta mix up, freeze some of it and throw beans and spinach when I go to reheat. We'll see how I feel.
Love to everyone here, Tanya don't blame you for not wanting it to happen again, it is disconcerting. Mel keep making those masks.
-
my new fabric. Couldn’t resist! -
booboo, typically gamma knife is a single session procedure unless you have quite a few spots, in my case there were only 2 small ones.
I did have an unfortunate issue with the IV though. Once it was removed and bandaged, I used the restroom to change from scrubs to street clothes and i noticed the gauze soaking with blood while buttoning my jeans. I get pretty freaked out at the sight of my own blood, so while reaching for my shirt blood began dripping down my arm and onto the floor. At that point, with jeans, a sports bra and one flip flop on, I opened the door to call for help and quickly a nurse came in to assist and calm me down, it was quite a scene.
-
Eeek Mae, glad you didn't faint and got help quickly
-
Mel that fabric is sooo cute! I wouldn't be able to resist either. For a while when my dd was younger she took sewing lessons and took a class in quilt making so we spent a fair bit of time in fabric stores. So many beautiful fabrics now...
-
Omg!!! Mae I would have been freaked out also. I don’t like blood no I don’t . Glad you’re ok. Sheesh as if dealing with cancer isn’t enough. You’re one tough lady !
-
Mae,
Thanks for the explanation. I still have so much to learn about this crazy disease. I learn more in Mel’s living room than I ever could on the internet. Anyway, I wish you happy days ahead, and I don’t know about you, but I’m itching for a road trip! Take care, my friend.
-
Mel,
I have been meaning to say how proud I am of you. Here I was the one chirping about finding something to do that’s meaningful, and you went out and actually did it. Making masks is such a worthy thing to make too. And that fabric is adorable! I want one!
Big hugs from FL!
-
Micmel— that doggy material is adorable. I wouldn’t have been able to resist it.
Illimae— OMG. So sorry you had that port issue. It sure isn’t fun when it’s our own blood. Be glad you were mostly dressed! I probably would have gotten sick and then passed out.
Mara51506– you take it easy. I do not know how you walk to chemo. Such a strong lady.
BooBoo1- I had my bloodwork yesterday. When results is posted, I am going to check my sodium. That’s a number I haven’t watched. Happy to report ANC was 2.0 so I was cleared to start my next Ibrance cycle
Tanya — hope you are feeling better. Scary event, for sure. I need to drink more water, too
-
I don’t check my sodium either. My calcium Was one number off this time lower. Weird. He never said anything about it. So I’m guessing it’s ok.
BooBoo~ thank you. I’m having a blast making them So far I’ve made like 80 by tomorrow it should be 100. I have 21 more in the process.
I find it very soothing. I can make them as long as this damn virus is out there. I don’t mind the fabric store. I love it. DH knows now to keep me out of that place! I’m plotting to go tomorrow. Still don’t know how to pull that one off. Maybe when he’s in a meeting I’ll skip out. Lol. I can easily spend $50 in a second so many to choose from. I love having choices to which one I want to do.
-
Bloodwork results from yesterday already posted on my portal. Never had them back so fast
Sodium was in range.

Recovering this morning from a 4 and a half hour cooking and baking marathon yesterday for Other Half's birthday dinner. That time does not include the extra hour and a half I spent searching moving boxes yet again for my missing hand mixer and I STILL couldn't find it. The stores don't have them stocked in this area for whatever reason and so I creamed a yellow cake AND chocolate buttercream frosting BY HAND. I feel like I ran a marathon! No wonder a Mixmaster was a treasured wedding present back in the day.
Since restaurants are hit or miss due to Covid, I spent some time over two weeks planning the menu as I love cooking new things. I decided to make crab cakes as they are one of his favorite dishes and not something he gets often. We had an incredible dinner of the crab cakes, asparagus, green salad, and a light potato salad - as good as any restaurant. And the cake turned out very well, only small slivers needed and I only made a 7 inch cake.
I've noticed that the more we eat and cook at home, the less interested we are in either fast food or other sort of takeaway food/junk food. I had McDs six weeks ago and wow, was that a disappointment and no, Im not in any hurry to go back! Or the truly terrible sandwich I got earlier this week when I was out and about, from a popular chain that I would never have thought twice about stopping at for lunch at work.
Mel - ah yes, the fabric store. So easy to get stuck there! Soon enough you will have boxes overflowing with fabric! Are you going to Jo-Anns? Often they have a coupon in the mail or the back of flyers.
Tanya and Mae - you two take care, those sound like some not-nice medical scares!
*waves* to everyone else - hope the summer is treating folks well!
-
Sondra- Can I come over for supper? Sounds delicious!!!
-
Sondra,
I'm with Candy - your special meal sure sounds great!
I agree about takeout, etc. For years, my DH and I would grab takeout many nights a week because we both had such crazy work schedules. We had gotten used to not great food, and probably not the greatest for our bodies, either. Since Covid shutdown, we've been forced to rethink our eating, especially our dinners. Years ago, I used to love cooking. Now I am trying to make better stuff for us, and I'm actually back to using minced garlic, onions, peppers, lots of spices, etc in our foods, and making a lot more variety of things. So there's one plus for the virus, I guess.
-
Yes Snodra, I would also like to come over for supper! I agree with you about most fast food not being the best. My favourite burger which supplies my beef is a junior size burger from Harvey's which is delicious and cheap. Usually order 5 to 10 at a time, freeze and then defrost and put them in my little oven on toast. Comes out perfect. Other than that beans, queso, cheese shreds combined with bran cereal and taco seasoning, sometimes with spinach, are my main meals. I never grow tired of them and they are delicious. The burgers vary between the beef and the walmart frozen breaded chicken burgers. I usually only have meat every couple of days. I much prefer these to a large meal.
I spent yesterday sleeping most of the day. The Herceptin knocked my butt out yesterday. Got up today and felt better. Went to Wal Mart around 7 am. Got so many more groceries there than other places. Stocked up on extra beans, queso and got a nice water bottle that clips on. Should be good for my multiple walks around the block when it is hot. Other than that, expecting a delivery of cat litter so walks will be kept shorter to make sure I don't miss anyone. Can't believe it is friday again. The weeks are just flying by, it is crazy.
-
SondraF— your dinner sounded very tasty! Love crab cakes. What kind of crab do you have locally?
Dixie Cup update— received 2 boxes of kitchen sized Dixie Cups from Amazon ( they were expensive) DH found Dixie cups back in stock at Walmart this morning. I now have 3 boxes.
-
DG - I had to order special from Cornwall (western England), so I am assuming it was brown crab. Essentially I placed the order Monday, the crabs were caught and processed on Tuesday, and they shipped out Wednesday. The nearby giant supermarket doesnt have a functioning meat/seafood counter at the moment because of Covid, and it can be hit or miss with a fishmongers if they have the stock on any given day. Better to be safe and order direct than sorry to not be able to make the recipe!

-
Sondra.. loving your take away v home cooked and delivered food!
Personally not been in a shop for 4 months and depending only on deliveries and my DH picking up bits.... until TODAY! Scottish Gov allowing us shielded people out to shops for the first time. Went to Dobbies garden centre in Milngavie, Glasgow ( pronounced Mul Gai.., I know we are wierd). This has always been fav haunt for me when feeling a bit down, so was alway going to be my first visit anywhere. Spent a happy afternoon wandering about with my ‘cancer support Scotland’ face covering on... pretty comfortable considering, and every one else now sees them as normal so no issues apart from the glasses steaming up. -
Sondra I want the homemade cake. I don’t bake cakes anymore bc I’ll eat too much.
Reinherited the kitten/cat bc DD has to move and she can’t take him.
Mara you mentioned kitty litter delivery sounds like a plan as I went to the store today and the food and litter is heavy.
Karenfized that’s amazing that Scotland Yard kept you safe for 4 months. Enjoy your freedom.
Waving hello to all.
Tany
-
I had chocolate cake with chocolate icing and sprinkles for dessert - dd had the urge to bake. Yum. No wonder I'm getting fat (though I still blame the steroids lol
-
Definitely the steroids. Definitely. Keep that cake coming I love cake. Period. I could eat an entire cake myself. Just popping into say hello to everyone. Insomnia is having its way with me ! Hope you’re all asleep.
Minnie~ haven’t seen you darling.

Hi Micmel and everyone, I am reading along and trying to keep up with everyone. We have family visiting, so keeping busy. Yesterday was boating with our grandsons, the older is now taller than me 😮. Crazy golf today! I am fine, get results of latest brain scan this Wednesday so fingers crossed. We are all wearing masks and keeping our distance. Hubby and I were supposed to go to Canada in September, but I think we'd may need to postpone. Can't get insurance so better to be safe than sorry.
Thinking of you all, in pockets for scans as always. Sending love xx

Hello all,
I apologize for intruding on your thread, but Linda's husband Jay asked me to post that our friend Lindalou passed away this morning. She wasn't in any pain but was having a hard time for a while now. She was a lovely friend to have here as she was always very encouraging. I was honoured to be considered one of her friends here on BCO
kind regards, dee
-
Dee, thank you for posting about Lindalou, but I'm so sorry for confirmation of her passing. I knew she had been struggling and wondered about her since she had not been on the threads for so long. She was one of the first ladies I got to know when I joined BCO. I'm glad to know she wasn't in pain. My condolences to you, her family and friends. She was a lovely lady.
-
I remember our sweet lindalou. That makes me so sad. But happy she wasn't in pain. I will be sending her family my thoughts and strength. Thank you for telling us about this loss. Please giver her husband and family our deepest sympathies.
you are in no way intruding , you’re more than welcome in our living room. Stay safe yourself , and family. -
My condolences to the family of Lindalou. Another gone too soon
-
My condolences to Lindalou's family. I do not remember her, but always hard to hear of one of us passing.
Yesterday and today I have had trouble getting on BCO. I try to log in and it says "Privacy Notice" with a big red exclamation point and won't let me log on. I feared I was hacked or had a virus on my computer. Finally working now. ?????
I miss checking in with you all. Has been quiet and lonely here today without you all.
Any of you experience issues? I was going to try to call BCO's number posted online on Monday if continued issues. And I sent a message to the mods when I finally got to log on. It said something about not recognized by Microsoft or something like that. Said unsecure site.
Hope the site continues to work. You all are like family and I like keeping in touch.
-
Candy, I had issues getting in last night. It didn’t have any warnings, just wouldn’t come up.
