Anxious and Afraid
Last Friday I had my annual mammogram. I was told I need to come back for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound of my right breast so they can complete the evaluation. Of course I'm thinking worst case scenario.
I am 12 years out from last diagnosis and surgery so I have not posted here in years. My surgery was on my left breast. Very small, found on a screening mammo, had lumpectomy, rads, Femara.
I called and spoke with the nurse at the breast center and she said there is a new area of density that was not previousy there. I do not have particularly dense breasts. They gave me an appointment of August 4 which was the first opening. Things here were kind of backed up due to Covid-19 and social distancing rules.
When I called my breast surgeon for the prescription I was told call for an appointment after the mammo and ultrasound are done.
Just came here to vent and for support. Feeling super anxious. My advice to others is just take one step at a time. Wish I can follow my own advice. Thanks for listening.

I think it's a special kind of hell to get that kind of call back after you've had one round of BC. I'm so sorry.

After having to wait for over two and a half agonizing weeks, I finally had my diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, and I'm happy to report that everything came back normal! After the diagnostic mammo the tech came in and told me to wait to see if the radiologist still wanted to do the ultrasound. She then came back and said he did, but not to panic, he was thinking that it just may be a "kinked" vein. After they did the ultrasound the tech came in 20 minutes later and said "everything is okay, no need to follow up, we will see you in a year". I am so relieved! I am due for my biennial appointment with my breast surgeon this month so I will ask to see the official report.
I am also thrilled to say I am now 12 years NED from my original cancer diagnosis and still counting!

Sandee that is wonderful news! Fabulous!

Thank you Rah2464! It certainly is a relief after having been through bc treatment before.
Wishing all those waiting for results the best of luck for a good outcome.

@Sandee107...your post is so familiar! I just got called back for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound due to increasing segmented calcifications in left breast. Original diagnosis 2008, IDC , 1.6 cm ,sentinel node positive., lumpectomy ,rad, and chemo. Happy to read your outcome, hopping for the same!

@Suzziecue ....when are you going for your diagnostic and ultrasound? Waiting 2+ weeks just for the appointment was the worst. Hoping you get good results!
-
My appointment is 8/13 which will be a week from the call back. Yes the waiting is the hardest , just like the first time! The only good answer is all clear. “ come back in 6 months” or “ you need a biopsy” just means more waiting! Hoping for all clear

Best result....all clear,see you in a year !

Awesome news Suzziecue! So happy for you! Stay well.
