Hi Ladies!

What kind of exercise do you do? For those of you that had bone mets, do you find that exercising causes you pain? My orthopedic oncologist recently told me that because I had radiation to my hip, my tissues are like Velcro now. Lovely. And do you take any kind of supplements to help with these adhesions?

    AnnE16,

Before Covid, I had gotten into aqua fit/water aerobics. I have a lot of aches and pains and the water was just great. With Covid, unfortunately, those classes were canceled so I started walking more. I found that even the walking, though, aggravated my back. Lately, I've started going to our community pool which re-opened by reservation. I reserve the short lane in the pool (deepest water is 5 feet) and do water walking and some of the things from my aqua fit classes in that lane. Much better for my back, and in the head, it feels great too!

Anne16, can't speak regarding bone mets but just wanted to bring this thread to your attn. It's a bit quiet but has some activity and lots of archived discussion which might be helpful

I've been so fatigued since having a lot of bad SEs on May and June that I'm just starting to think about exercise

    hi

I used to horseback ride but I have a bad knee so I started doing yoga(not very good at it) and I use the elliptical machine which I really like. The gyms around me re-opened in June so I able to work out there with a mask! In the evenings my husband and I take our many dogs out for a 2-3 mile walk. It really helps keep me balanced and in a positive mind set. I have mets in most of my bones and some days I’m really sore but I don’t regret exercising. I have to admit I get a little jealous watching my kids horse back ride but I don’t want to take a chance falling and breaking a bone.

    Hi AnnE16,

I run, powerwalk, weight lift, and do an occasional online exercise class. I had radiation to my pelvis in 3 places, finished 3 weeks ago this Friday. I didn't go back to running the week after, but did power walk. No issues thus far. My RO didn't saying anything other than I would have some temporary inflammation in the area. I definitely experienced this and fatigue. No pain.

    Best,
    Stacey

    Hi!

I have bone mets and am an avid exerciser. I have the Peloton app and the Nike app and do strength and cardio. Sometimes I have aches and pains but I think the exercise helps them. I also walk the dog and do yoga (highly recommend). The Nike app is free.

Even just walking is a great way to go go go!

Bev, Jen: I love being in the water and a good pool! That is one thing that I have told my husband numerous times when I am dreaming of winning the lottery....we need to buy a house with a pool! I would love to have my own pool in the backyard especially during Covid! That is great that you can reserve a lane in the community pool and have something that works for you!

Moth, sorry to hear that you are experiencing some bad SE's. Thanks for the link. I have noticed that doing 20-30 minutes of exercise has helped improved my energy levels and unless I don't sleep well I am finding that I am not crashing around 3 PM. Do you have a pool you can go to? Maybe something low impact would be a good start?

Partyoffive, I have always loved looking at horses. They are gorgeous and magestic. And scary. I have only been on a horse once in my lifetime that I can really recall. I was a teenager and on a family trip to Colorado. We went horseback riding and the horse kept on turning and trying to bite my foot. So I would have to take my foot out of the stir up everytime I saw his/her head turning. And then I got off the horse and my butt was SO SORE!! I think I have had structural issues long before I was diagnosed with breast cancer but after that ride, I was never interested in getting on a horse again! I hear you on being afraid you may break something. I don't even ride a bike anymore because I am afraid of losing my balance. A walk with your husband and dogs in the evening sounds lovely!

    Hi Stacey,

What were your symptoms when it was found in your pelvis? Did you have pain in that area or hip area?

I had seen a doctor a couple years ago that had told me that radiation keeps going into your tissues. He said it doesn't stop at the targeted area. So he recommended I take Lipoic Acid. I am terrible with supplements so I was doing well with this at the beginning and then of course I fell off the wagon. I started exercising during Covid and noticed the tightness in my hip which was the area radiated and I am trying to remember to take those supplements again now.

    Hi hjernt,

I have been told to do yoga by professionals so many times. And I know I really need to. Or even pilates which I like better than yoga. I have been tight and not flexible my entire life. I have been the most consistent with exercise during Covid because there is nothing else to really do! And now my body is in shock! I have been experiencing some pain in my hip and I think it is because I don't have the flexibility or rotation maybe? I noticed when I started doing a lot of squats and sumo squats...,my hip was not happy (the radiated one). My body is wondering why we left the couch with cookies? =)
