Inverted nipples
I have had inverted nipples for as long as I can remember.
Not from birth but as I've got older.
At my last mammogram 3 years ago the nurse commented on them saying she was concerned but when I said they had been like that for years she said ok and the mammogram came back clear
Last week when I raised my arm I noticed that the left one seemed to invert a little bit more than the right although that does invert a little bit more when I raise my arm
Now I'm wondering if inverted nipples do that anyway when raising your arms ?
I'm driving myself mad worrying about it and need to try and ring the drs tomorrow to get an appointment which is nearly always impossible.
There are no lumps but on the left hand side when I raise my arms the areola seems to make a very slightly raised moon shape under the nipple .
If my last mammogram 3 years ago was clear and looking on the bleak side this was something sinister what's the chance of it being really bad or would it be classed as catching it early ?
Also it's not exactly the same every time I look at it ( yes I know I need to stop looking so much lol )
Sometimes it doesn't go in as much and if I press gently on the right nipple then it looks exactly the same as the left
When I lie down they both look exactly the same
I know this is really stupid but I'm such a wuss when it comes to drs I'm so scared hes going to say that's all perfectly normal ( which obviously I want him to say ) but then I'll feel really stupid and will have wasted his time
By the way I'm 55 and have been through the menopause . Can aging change nipples ?

Dear Feeling_worried,
Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry that these breast changes and their worry have brought you here. We are glad that you reached out. While we hope that other members might offer their thoughts on your concerns, most will say that we can't really know what is going on with your situation. It is always best to have a medical doctor check out any changes to your breast health. While we hear that you have concerns about getting a timely appointment, that is the best place to start either with your Primary Care Provider or Gynecologist or whoever prescribes your mammograms. Keep us posted and let us know if you need more help.

Mine have been like that forever. Had nothing to do with my cancer, which was not close to my nipple. And of course they look different when you raise your arm. That's normal with innies. The only time inverted nipples are a problem is if they BECOME inverted after being outies.

thank you so much for your reply
Over the years I have made sure I check for lumps etc but not worried too much about my nipples as I knew they were a bit inverted anyway.
I just freaked the other day when I noticed it
So with inverted nopples ( well mine anyway ) a little bit of my nipple sticks out but has a dip /indent above it ( if that makes sense ? ) so when I raise my arms the little bit of nipple goes towards the gap making it look flatter. And that's normal ???
