Immediate call-back for diagnostic Mammo

Hello everyone - I completed my annual mammo last Tuesday 6/25 and received a call-back 2 days later due to "asymmetrical (left) upper quadrant density" per verbal radiologist report. I am 42 and have had an endometrial ablation in 2018 - since that time, I've noticed breast soreness (left greater than right) however, attributed it to hormonal changes/perimenopause. My Grandfather had breast cancer however, tested negative for BRCA which was why my OB/GYN was agreeable to an ablation vs. hysterectomy. Naturally, I'm worried out of my mind and just wanted to get some honest thoughts/guidance as to what to expect at my diagnostic appt. this upcoming Wednesday. Thanks so much for holding this space....

The timing of the callback doesn't really indicate anything much. Mine took a month.

I think 80% of callbacks show benign results and I hope your are one of those but waiting is hard. Breathe. Deep breathing helps me when I remember to do it.

Personally, I think it has more to do with how efficient the facility is, rather than how bad or good the results are. A few years ago I remember going for the screening mammo in the morning, and getting the call it was all clear that afternoon. I know it's hard to not panic, I do it all the time with every little ache and pain too, but as Wrenn said, the majority of call backs turn out to not be cancer.

I was called back every time from the age of 26. Everything was always fine for over 40 years. Look at it as a positive move to make doubly sure everything is OK. And don't be surprised if they do an ultrasound too.

I made an account just to reply to this because my situation is exactly the same. I'm 41, had my 2nd annual screening mammogram last Thursday afternoon, 6/25, and got the call back call on Friday morning. I'm also scheduled to go back Wednesday, 7/1, to evaluate a focal asymmetry in the left upper outer breast. I got a callback last year after my first mammo for the same thing, but I've moved to a new state since then and the current hospital only has access to the reports from last year and not to the images themselves, so I wasn't surprised to get called back, but it's still stressful. What I have learned about the callback thing after having been called back two out of two times is that it is still much more likely to be a benign finding than cancer. Good luck to you! Hopefully we both get good news on Wednesday!

That's wonderful to hear! Same for me - had additional mammo views and an u/s. Per the radiologist, the area of concern was likely "positional" which she says occurs in 1/10 women. She said I could resume my yearly mammo. My only concern is that I continue to have tenderness, dull pain in that area (worse w/ cycles but still present outside of that timeframe). So after reviewing several of these threads, I plan to be diligent in having said area monitored...as we know our body best. Thank you so much everyone...
