all I was told over the phone was grade 3 cancer with cancer also in lymph node tested. How do I find an oncologist who will be smart and willing to share all the latest information? I live in North central Colorado but would be willing to travel if I knew someone was great.

NCI Designated Cancer Centers are the best of the best.

Hi Bykath and I'm so sorry - the first few days after diagnosis are the worst. Ideally you'd look for an accredited breast cancer center of excellence; it looks like there's one at Boulder Community Health. The NCI designation is also a real indicator of knowledgeable oncologists, as MelissaDallas points out. Then personally, I prefer a woman, but that's just me! You can also google the doctors at the hospital you're checking out, and see if they've published a study or been quoted as an expert. Hope that helps get you started.

Welcome, bykath. We're so sorry you find yourself here, but we hope you find this to be a supportive and helpful community. We second what MelissaDallas and Georgia1 have both said, and want to add that it's also a good idea to contact and meet with a few different doctors, if possible, to get a feel for their demeanor and how comfortable you are with them. Make sure to get copies of all your results (scans, biopsy results, etc) so you have them for your records and can bring them to your first meeting with the oncologists you're meeting. Please keep us posted on how your search goes, we're all here for you!
