Breast surgeon after 2nd ultrasound

hello again! I just had my follow up 6 month ultrasound, the lump is still there and has grown just a little bit they said it is stable? They have also found a new smaller lump that wasn't there before (they are saying it looks like a cyst.) the Radiologist said everything looks good and recommended another ultrasound with a bilateral mammogram (never had a mammogram) in 6 months, but my regular doctor called and said she doesn't like it and has scheduled me with a breast surgeon on July 23rd. I'm a little worried. The BIRADS is a 3. I'm thinking maybe a biopsy or just a 2nd opinion???

    You could have a needle biopsy. The ultrasound guided needle biopsy I had was very simple and caused little discomfort. It would give you more answers.

    Radiologists know more about breast cancer imaging than PCPs or Gyns - it's a Radiologist's specialty and area of expertise whereas it's one of a thousand things that a regular doctor does. There is no harm in getting the second opinion from the breast surgeon but personally I wouldn't worry. And I wouldn't go into the appointment with a preconceived idea of what I want - I'd wait to hear what the doctor has to say.

    Do you have a copy of the ultrasound report? If you post the information here, it would provde a better idea of why the Radiologist assessed the imaging as a BIRADs3, with a less than 2% chance of malignancy.

    Interesting that you've never had a mammogram. How old are you?

    Hey Beesie! I'm 30. My OBGYN originally felt the lump after i was itching and having pain and irritation (still do) in my left breast. I was thinking maybe she is just being extra precautions because my Mother died from Cancer (colon) Here are my results!

    CLINICAL INDICATION: left breast mass- repeat 6 month imaging. Mass in the 1:00 position of the left breast

    FINDINGS: Ultrasound of the entire left breast was performed in all 4 quadrants, the retroareolar region and axilla.

    Again demonstrated in the 1:00 position 2 to 3 cm from the nipple, there is a hypoechoic mass with lobular smooth borders and an echogenic center measuring 1.13 x 0.54 x 1.11 cm, previously 1.01 x 0.52 x 0.88 cm, similar to previous.

    In addition, in the 9:00 position, 2 to 3 cm from the nipple, there is a small anechoic smooth walled simple cyst measuring 0.42 x 0.19 x 0.24 cm, not seen previously.

    IMPRESSION:

    1. Probable fibroadenoma versus intramammary lymph node in the left breast 1:00 position, remains essentially stable.

    2. New small cyst in the 9:00 position, considered benign.

    ACR BIRADS CATEGORY: 3: Probably benign

    RECOMMENDATION: Recommend bilateral mammogram in 6 months, with left breast ultrasound to assure stability.
