Palpable lump with nothing seen on imaging?

I found a palpable mass in my right breast, my obgyn also felt it and ordered a mammogram and ultrasound. I got the results of those yesterday and they showed no mass. I do have larger breasts and they seem to be dense. I am waiting on an appt with breast surgeon to see if they think a biopsy is needed. Should I push for one? And/or and MRI? I am 40, adopted, and do not know my family history. The lump is in the mid to upper part of my breast. Has anyone had a cancer diagnosis with nothing seen on mammogram and ultrasound? I feel a bit better after that news, but am still very worried

Yes, my palpable lump was not seen on mammogram or ultrasound and was misdiagnosed for 20 months. I would definitely push for biopsy or MRI.

Shooting pains in my breast led me to my my pcp. She was the idiot who misdiagnosed me. She finally sent me to a surgeon who immediately took it out.

I agree with Minus Two that you should see what the breast surgeon has to say. I am just sharing my (rare) experience to let people know that it can happen. The standard of care (which I found out belatedly) with a palpable lump that is not seen on mammogram nor ultrasound is biopsy, MRI, or removal. Please let us know how it goes with the breast surgeon.

Thank you ladies, I appreciate all the insight! I’m hopeful I will find out tomorrow when my appt with the surgeon is. The waiting is so stressful
