Diagnosed with IDC on 6/3
Hi, All. This has been one of the most surreal months of my life. I was diagnosed on June 3 with IDC (HER2 positive). I feel very fortunate that as soon as my doctor received the preliminary results he called me and was able to refer me to a surgeon the very next day. The surgeon was able to get me in with a oncologist the same day that I went for surgery consultation. Everything moved so fast. Blood work, Scans, Mammograms, Ultrasounds, Biopsies. Last Monday we got the final results for staging. My tumor was approx 3.25 inches and lymph nodes are affected, but it has not metastasized to organs or bones, so we are facing Stage 3. I am going later this week for a portacath placement and should be starting treatment next week (TCHP). After the treatment I am looking at a double mastectomy, then of course radiation and Herceptin,
Looking to hear experiences from others who have similar treatments and DX. I am 43 years old and have 2 kiddos in college and we also have 3 young children at home so I am also looking for guidance on parenting pre-schoolers and toddlers while going through treatment. We have a good support system, and I am thankful for that!

Hi Queen. Sorry you find yourself here. I also had stage 3 and my kids at the time were around 4, 7, and 8. It's definitely hard when you have little ones. We had moved to where we are now a few years prior...so we have zero family nearby and only a couple friends at the time...so good that you have a support system to help you through this! With younger kids, I think we definitely face different struggles. My husband was amazing...but my biggest issue was guilt. Guilt that I couldn't always do things, eat meals, etc with the family. My guilt has recently subsided, now that I've been finished with treatment for awhile and things are semi-back to normal. It also makes me feel better that my kids barely remember the whole ordeal, so my guilt was definitely unnecessary! Take the time you need to get well and heal! Things will be normal again....it might just be a new normal! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. This community has a lot of very knowledgeable women (and men!)

queen - sorry that you find yourself here, but this site is full of good info and support. Here is a link to the Triple Positive thread - many there who have the same diagnosis and same treatment, and I would also suggest joining a chemo group with folks who will be starting the same month as you - it is nice to compare notes and cheer each other on.
