Zometa Drip Time Question

I get my zometa drip over 30 minutes time as I tolerate it better than when its given in 15 minutes.

The cancer center I go to is expanding, so there are newer chemo nurses and one questioned me last time about wanting the 30 minute drip saying the 15 minutes is standard. I would like to know if there are any links, any literature I could print out that explains how a longer time administering the drip leads to less side effects. I’d like to be able to share the information next time if I’m questioned again.

I would to know this, too as I am starting Zometa soon for my osteoporosis.

I was recommended Zometa as well. What side effects did you have?

Lilly, the main side effect for me it was headaches.

I looked up the prescribing info and it says a MINIMUM of 15 minutes for infusion. So not sure why the nurses were so put off?

Divine, how long did your headache lasted after the infusion? MO told me it is optional for me but he said that protects bones from cancer.

I get Reclast which is another brand of zoledronic acid but I get it infused over a half hour. My MO also requests a full bag of saline before and after to help with potential side effects. The meds can be hard on the kidneys so being well hydrated is important too.

My wife had the same side effect (headache) and it hasn't happened since infusion time is changed from 15 mins to 30 mins.
