Starting chemo February 2020

I never though this day would come. I'm going to miss my Benadryl naps lol
-
congrats scattered!! I know you’re so relieved
-
Congrats Scattered!!!!
-
Dyonsphere and ScatteredEnergy - Congrats on finishing chemo! Scattered, I'll be thinking good thoughts for your MRI on Monday.
mmorigan - how was surgery? I hope you are doing well and you get a good pathology report too.
I think I had the sentinel node biopsy when I was first diagnosed. It was done in the ultrasound room and called a guided needle core biopsy, is that the same thing? I don't remember it hurting much. I go for radiation seeding the day before surgery, which I guess sends something that will light up my nodes and allow the surgeon to see if anything is cancerous and needs to be removed during surgery. Or at least that is how I understand it.
I'm feeling pretty good. I have peach fuzz on my head, but I'm totally impatient to see it growing back. I'm also still having aching legs and joints, and swelling in my feet and legs as the days go on. I hope this is temporary from TCHP and doesn't continue with the HP.
-
does anyone’s oncologist have them on house lock down while on chemo? Mine has me on house lock down while I’m on AC. I haven’t left my house since May 21st except to go to chemo then back home. I finish chemo July 2 and was really hoping I’d be able to enjoy 4th of July but nope he want me to stay put till I’m not neutropenic so another 2 weeks then I’ll have surgery the following week.
-
Believe it or not. I am up and posting from the surgical center...I might be addicted to my phone 😁. I'm waiting for my ride to pick me up.
The couldn't save the right nipple so ended up taking both off. I was prepared for that so I'm OK with it.
I have a nerve block and they sent me home with percocet but I also have a prescription for Oxy. I'll go with the percocet since that's on the discharge papers.
My right side hurts more than the left but it's not too bad, more sore than pain. The bra they have me in is very tight, feels like a vice but, that's OK, helps to keep the swelling down.
I'll let you know how tomorrow goes.
-
Glad to hear things went well overall Morrigan! Make sure to drink lots of water and take stool softeners with those pain meds because they can back you up pretty good. Hope you get some rest and recover well
-
so glad surgery went will morrigan!! Hope recover is smooth and you don’t have too much pain
-
hray1993 - I'm not on lockdown, hardly anything from my MO about staying in even with COVID - but I'm not neutropenic (yet). Hovering just above it at 1.8 right now. But that's hard - not going out at all. You'll get there.
morrigan - I hope you don't get more than "sore"! And encouraging that you sound ok. I expect that I will be an emotional mess when I wake up without my breasts. Another difference in treatments... my mastectomy requires an overnight in the hospital. I figured they would try to avoid overnight with COVID.
I got the peach fuzz too and it's so soft... and so grey. I'm not done with chemo yet so I don't know what's going on, but I'll take it as a sign my hair will be coming back soon. I am coming around to the scarf and sunglasses summer look, though. I feel like I'm going for glamourous, which is not normal me. Sometimes I wear a big floppy sunhat over the scarf and then you can't even tell I'm bald.
My husband took all three kids on their annual fishing trip, so I have four days to myself before I go for round #6 redux on Tuesday. Tonight is movie and sushi night. I really hope the sushi tastes normal.

"I expect that I will be an emotional mess when I wake up without my breasts."
That time may come. Right now, I can't see anything because of the wrap/bandage. I may have a reaction the first time I look at myself in the mirror without anything covering it. I hope not but, I can see it happening
-
Fab4mom, I had a guided needle core biopsy as well when diagnosed. I don't know if they are the same thing.
hray1993, no. She did advice me to not go out around people on the days my antibodies were low.
morrigan_2575, tight is good, it prevents everything from moving around so it will hurt less. I hope I do as good as you.
-
micd, I don’t think I’m neutropenic either and don’t think I have been the whole time. Idk for sure though. My numbers are always really good when I go for chemo. He just told me that before I even had my first AC. Taxol I didn’t have restrictions except Be careful but AC he told me not to leave my house except for chemo. If my mom didn’t hear it too I’d think I imagined it.
-
anyone else still not have a surgery date? My oncologist and breast surgeon are on opposite timelines right now. They will be getting together to discuss and come to an agreement. My oncologist is thinking sometime between the 20-27 but my surgeon said earliest would be August 2. I’m so ready for them to come to an agreement. My last chemo is July 2nd and I have a meeting with my surgeon on the 15th. I just want a surgery date!!
-
hray1993, my Medical Oncologist never had a say on the surgery day, it was between my Breast Surgeon and Plastic Surgeon.
-
My surgery date was determined by, my PS and my BS. I told my BS my last Chemo date (5/20) and he said surgery could be 3-4 weeks later. I requested this week since 6/10 was my first HP solo treatment and, I didn't want to do both the same week. I was happy that my BS and PS were able to line up their schedule on the week i wanted.
-
ugh I really hope my surgeon decides to move my surgery up and not make me wait till August. I don’t want my tumor growing during that time
-
i would explain that to him when you meet him. I know they can't do it too soon because your body needs time to heal from the Chemo.
-
I told her that when I talked to her and she said she would talk to my oncologist and if he felt strongly we needed to do the surgery at 3 weeks instead of 4 then they would take that into consideration. I know they cant do it before 2 weeks so I’m hoping For 3 weeks after last chemo
-
hray1993, what surgery are you having again that you are not working with a PS as well?
-
I just recently changed my mind to have a lumpectomy. I just told them that Thursday at chemo so idk if I’ll need a plastic surgeon or not They didn’t mention it for a lum
-
hray1993, ah okay. Makes sense.
-
UGH, I just went to open my car door and my hand slipped. I think two of my nails might be totally coming off because of it. Let's hope I'm wrong. I'll be holding them with bandages when I get home lol
-
oh no! That sounds painful!!
-
Ouch Scattered!! I lost a good part of one finger nail this weekend camping. I cut all of my nails super short because if they snag on anything the top rips off super easily. Other than that, I don’t seem to have too many side effects yet from my HP infusions. Still have my drippy nose at times and I’m just waiting for the diarrhea to start (sorry-tmi as usual). I’m a little tired and sore but I’m attributing that to camping with 3 kids under 6 and a dog all weekend. I made it through my first week of radiation last week too. So far no side effects that I can tell, but I’m sure I’ll get some red and side skin as treatment progresses.
-
Anyone else that’s finished chemo and lost their hair starting to have some fuzz grow back? I have to laugh because my head looks a little ridiculous right now, but I’m kind of excited at the prospect of my hair slowly coming back
-
ajminn3, my head and body hair started growing while on Taxol. My eyebrows came off on Taxol.
I look like this now. It is white so hard to tell.
-
Scattered- you’re so beautiful! It def looks like your hair is coming in. I can’t really tell with mine...I will just have to be patient! How are your nails after your door mishap??
-
ajminn3, thank you. Nails are still sticking strong lol. When you look under all my nails it looks like I have spiderwebs instead of skin. Super weird. This Sunday I was in the pool for over 4 hrs, and I was able to move my big toe nails away from the nail bed. Super weird again lol. So I'm just being extra careful with all my nails until they go back to normal.
-
Finally getting last TCHP. Oddly enough, my platelets skyrocketed to above where I started before chemo, which is good for moving towards surgery. Now I get to start counting the days til some normalcy returns to my body.

micdpowers, woohoo
