    Hi All,
I had a wonderful time yesterday! It was so worth the drive. I do agree that a round table would have been better, as I missed talking much with many of you.
Thanks for putting this together, I felt a sisterhood with you all before but meeting you in person has made it more of a bond.
    Love,
    Fran

Okay, Kats and SEI.............Bloodshed for posting those pictures!!!! My question is what the "hell" was I doing?! My answer would be, "knowing me..God only knows what I was doing!"
Loved being with all of you. Can not wait to meet again! I agree that a round table would be nice, maybe next time!!
Sphnx.....More from the Gyn story next month when I go back!!
    Love to all,
    Denise

    Kay,
I've been playing around with different ideas for the Team sign. This is one. I guess I really showed ask Nancy first (seeing as she is our Team Captain) if she even wants me to do the sign. Sorry Nancy, do you want me to work on a Team sign?

The butterfly is a gif I think I found on line. The pink ribbon is from a scrapbook program I have and I added the word 'HOPE' to it. The lettering is also from a scrapbook program.

What a great time I had yesterday! It was so wonderful meeting everyone and seeing "old" friends again. I agree that a round table would be preferable. Especially when I hear there were some "lively" moments down at the other end of the table with Denise! Hmmm, something about a gyn story?

Looking forward to meeting again and walking with the team in June.

Hi everyone. Newby here. I wanted to make the get together Saturday but we had an 80th birthday celebration for my Dad the same time.
Can someone please give me information on the Komen race downtown ?
I'm not sure if I'll be able to walk it, but would love to know how to get involved with the Michigan team "Wings of Hope". How do you donate? Can I solicit donations from friends and coworkers? Who do they make checks out to? Do I need to give them receipts.......so many questions.
I'm hoping to get to actually BE there, so that is my plan for now. WOuld love to meet you all.
You can pm me here if that is ok, or email at rockysmom@wideopenwest.com
    thanks!

    Hi, Mom

Well, you missed a lovely lunch. Hope your Dad had a great celebration--80th birthdays only come once in a lifetime. VBG So I would have missed the lunch, too.

Well, here's what you need to know, basically. Sphynx is our fearless leader. She has set up the team for this year. Go to the link in bold purple below. It's a little confusing, but you want to register for a group. Eventually you'll get to a drop-down box and you can pick Wings of Hope from the list. You can register for free, or donate $25 and get a t-shirt.

I set up our team - Wings of Hope
    http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp
If you need help walking through this, please let me know.

When you register, the software automatically sets up a page for you. You can customize it a little, put in your own colors, words and so on. If people want to donate, you send them to your webpage. They can use a credit card, they get a receipt for the tax deduction--it's really slick!

There is a trolley that runs the first mile and back for folks that can't walk. I saw the "trolley gifts" last year, and boy, was I jealous! It's a wonderful afternoon. Hope to see you there.

    Thank You Fancy2!
If I get cash donations, can I just send them in under my credit card? (I'm guessing most people I could get to donate would prefer stuffing a couple bucks into an envelope for me vs going to a website).

Is it ok for someone you all don't know to join you ? (I'm very shy and a bit afraid of butting in).

oh- and yes I have/had bc. dx Jan 07, lump feb 07. stage 1 grade1 er/pr+, her -. Getting ready to start rads soon. First appointment with rad onc tomorrow.

    thanks again for the info!

Please! Butt in! Bring everybody you know! The more the merrier.

Yes, you can send cash donations yourself. And that's exactly how you do it--take the check and charge the donation to your own credit card. It will be a lot clearer when you register.

And good luck on the rads. No chemo, I assume?

    You asked

I have to tell you this group of ladies are the best, I'm from IL and I met a bunch of them for the first time last year when they let me be a part of their Race for the Cure Team. So if they let and welcomed an Illinoian they never met before be a part of their group............

To tell you how great this group is, DH & I drove up from IL so I could go to their get together last Saturday.

Yes, you can do the donations that way. You can also mail in checks. There's an address listed to send checks to, my daughter's boss donated to mine that way last year. Don't qoute me on this but I think if the donations are made that way (mailing checks in) they don't show up on your personal fund raising page.

Mary, I think we are writing at the same time!
Welcome Judy (rockysmom). I see you made your way through the Komen website thanks to Fancy2. Yes, it is confusing and it is a pet peeve of mine. You can get lost. Absolutely, I always feel – “the more the merrier”. You aren’t butting in at all. I’m shy also – really!

Some “fearless leader” I am. Thanks for answering Judy’s questions, Kay. I was waiting for lunchtime to get online since I’m at work. There are “Trolley Gifts”??? I think this black eye is going to prevent me from walking. I might have to take the trolley this year! (Ok, I’m kidding). Insert a happy face here please. I didn’t even know you could register for free but only get the t-shirt if you donate. Are you sure about that? We could get all the bc.org sisters to register and then we would definitely win as the team with the most survivors.

Mary, glad you got home safely. I love the butterfly. Noone has to ask my permission for anything. I’ll sit back and be a slug since you guys have the artistic ability. Kay, what do you think of Mary’s sign? She didn’t show you guys the head bobbles yet. I like them but – you know, it’s up to you guys.

A few notes about the Komen site:
    1. It should not ask you for a password to join the team. I didn’t set it up with one.
    2. Most of us are selecting 5K walk but there are a few that do the 5K run.
    3. You can take the trolley if you want and they have Trolley Gifts.
    4. There is no pressure to fundraise. Some did great last year with it and others prefer not to.
    5. If you want to save on the t-shirt postage, I am going to pack-up t-shirts on June 2nd and Irene already said she would join me. Everyone is welcome if you want to join us. If we don’t meet between then and the race, I’ll get to the race early enough to give them to you. Sorry I didn’t tell you that before you signed up, Judy.

Sorry it is taking me so long to respond.

I think that's right. Seems like that was one of the choices. Hmmmmm---35,000 people would put us ahead of the Ford group---

Haven't seen the sign--but I've got a butterfly mask and wings I already volunteered to wear. I think her artwork is quite lovely.

Didn't mean to steal your thunder, Nancy. I just figured that you might be busy, and I was there, so..... I am so excited. I got out my cd from last year, and watched the beautiful slide show, and cried, and.....

Hi, Just wanted to say what a fantastic time I had at our luncheon! It was so nice to meet everyone.

Speaking of our next adventure, is anyone interested in going to Chickfest on March 25th in Royal Oak?
Here's the link. Looks like fun to me.

Kay - no no no! Don't feel you are stealing my thunder! You guys kill me! I'm the slacker who is goofing off at work so I really appreciate your help. I need your help! I'm only the fearless leader on paper.

You know, about that CD. I don't know why Komen didn't use it instead of the one they had up last year. I really disliked theirs and Mary's made me teary also.

Can you see her gif file with the butterflys above? Hit your reload button.

Julie, The chickfest sounds like a ball. Why the heck did they plan it on a Sunday night? Shoot, I'd have to take off work the next day since I go to bed about 8:30 p.m. I think I will have to pass on it. Are you guys going?

I'll try to find out if you can really sign up for the team without donating for the t-shirt. Maybe that is what the winners have been doing the past few years!

    Later,

    Nancy

I saw them--didn't realize that this would be our sign. I LOVE it.

As for being the "the slacker who is goofing off at work" don't worry about it. Into every life a little money must fall. VBG

I have never heard of the "chickfest!" I'll have to check it out. Is anyone going????

Welcome Judy! Nobody butts in..we just jump in!! Glad to meet you!

I have to find out if my "family" will walk with all of us or not....(a couple fuddy duddies). I've been there the past 3 years and will be there with one group or another this year.

Okay, I've upped the Bounty for the person responsible for TAKING and POSTING The "accidental" pics of me!! I won't mention any names!! LOL..just kidding, but they are bad! Once again I'll say how much I enjoyed the day and meeting everyone!
    Love ya all,

Glad I live down here in Illinois since you've upped that bounty.
I think it's a good pic (I'll remove it if you want me to) but I think it shows your lively, fun personality.
My pic(s) on the other hand look like I'm half asleep and bored out of my 'BIG' head.

You guys crack me up - so I keep coming back! I forgot to mention that I'm the one with the 'LITTLE' head! It just makes your head look big. I wore a small wig and even that was too big on my pea head.

Just wait Denise, I haven't had a chance to even look at my pictures yet! At least I know I didn't take pics of myself and I can photoshop my black eye out of the group shot. Heck, I'll photoshop my whole bod out of it.

Anyone can be part of our team and still do their own thing. Last year we met a bunch at the Survivor's tent before the walk and others at Hockey town afterwards for lunch. I have some friends that do the walk every year but do not come on the boards. So, they are not as excited about doing the team stuff but still join because I twist their arms. Two of them are long-term survivors and doing the walk much longer than myself.

Kay - did you just have your one year anniversary? Happy Anniversary!

Hi everyone. I'm home from the hospital. I was so upset that I couldn't make it to the lunch. I was laying on the hospital bed Friday saying "I have to get out of here, I have to go to meet my friends tomorrow"...lolol I was in total denial that I needed to be in the hospital, but I feel so much better now, and I now know it was the best thing for me. I had my bone scan and it came back CANCER FREE!!! I am still waiting for my CT scan results. I hope I can make the next get together. I loved looking at all the pictures. You all look so great! Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers you sent my way. Take care,
    Trish

    Hi Trish:
So sorry that you couldn't make the luncheon on Saturday - you were definitely missed!!! Very happy that you are feeling so much better now and I look forward to meeting you at the next luncheon.

Michigan (and Illinois) Gal(s): What a fun time, right??!! It was so good to see all the 'old timers' and to meet the new ones too. I always leave these luncheons feeling uplifted and energized - thanks for that!!
Looking forward to our next one - and Mary (Kats) you'd better make it too!! You may be from Illinois but you are now an honorary Michigander (or Michiganian if you prefer).

To all the gals who weren't able to make it this time - we look forward to seeing you next time.

    God bless,
    Pat

    Hi Everyone,

I do not post much anymore..having some medical issues-but, the big "help" I need is finding another oncologist. I do not normally reach out per se, but I am at my wit's end.

I have Care Choices (HMO)..can any of you suggest whom I may see? My current onc is not taking me seriously and while I have looked at the providers listed for my plan, I also think personal recommendation is always best. I'm currently in the St. Joe's system and with all my extensive cancer history I would prefer to stay in that facility.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well, ladies, I hardly know how to tell you all this. My husband got the results of his tests from his doctor on Thursday. He has Amyloidosis. His only hope for survival is a stem cell transplant. We hope to get him accepted at Boston Medical University. He's from the Boston area and has family there. I would appreciate any prayers you might have for him. He's a very sick man, and the survival rates for this disease are about the same as for stage IV bc.

Well I got online looking for any pictures from our get together last week and saw your post Kay. My prayers are with you and your husband. He has you on his side and that's in his favor.
    Take care.
