Hi everyone! I too am waiting test results and am so nervous. I am 42, found a small lump behind my right nipple in October 2019. Just saw my doctor Tuesday (6th)sent me for a 3D Bilateral diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound on Thursday (8th). Radiologist read results there -I have a 2.5 cm mass behind my right nipple. Dense breast tissue. scheduled an appointment with an Oncologist- whom I saw yesterday. He has scheduled an MRI for TOMORROW (16th). He was very nice but said he wanted to locate exact place and it will give him the best reading.

I am wondering if they're thinking it's cancer, is it a cyst, is he planning on a biopsy or surgery, so they're moving quite fast, but maybe it's better I don't know what it is! I breast fed all of my children, he did say it's not common to have a blocked duct when you haven't breastfed in 9 years like in my case. I was asked to express the discharge from my nipple, it was pus (sorry, gross I know) I had not done that since the last time a few weeks ago in which it also contained blood.

Anyone else have this??

Did you find the lump yourself? Do you have any other symptoms? Thanks, I'm super nervous! 😟

I think a lot of us had the MRI after our biopsies, not before.

I had an MRI after biopsy, scar tissue interfered, so I think having one before biopsy is great, I had several subsequent to treatment as well. Both your breasts will be viewed. there will be a lot of questions about metal in and on your body, remove all piercings!! If like my experiences, you will be lying on your stomach with your breasts hanging down, and your arms extended in front of you like superman, You will have an intravenous line for contrast medium to be injected at some point during the MRI. The machine is very loud/banging - like dissonant modern music. My fear was what do I think of for 20 minutes, so one time I worked on the seating layout for my daughter's wedding, another time, rearranging furniture in the living room, another time just counting. Hope it is indeed a cyst.

I had an MRI before biopsy because mammogram showed nothing and ultrasound had a weird dot of a thing. MRI showed something was up. Went back for ultrasound but there was nothing showing up so had to go back for an MRI needle guided biopsy.

MRIs are scary for some people but for me, I sleep through the whole thing. Good luck!

I slept also! Finally got my MR Friday! They did a biopsy yesterday and after they finished, said they were going to get me in for another MRI, so I had another one yesterday. I've got 3 areas that were concerning on the report. I see the oncologist Tuesday for the results, which is also my daughter's 18th birthday! I think it will be alright:)

I have an MRI/Mammo question: I am 3 yrs out from my initial diagnosis. I have regular Mammos and had one in October of 2019 that came back fine. They suggested I start putting MRI screenings into the mix because I have implants and because of where mine was located it's hard to get good views on the mammo. I did not have any symptoms before the MRI which was performed on the 16th. I got a call on my way home from Moffitt from the doctor saying they saw a 1.4 cm spot that they want to biopsy. She said it was low to moderate concern but they can't rule out a recurrence because they can't tell for sure if it fat necrosis, etc from previous lumpectomy or radiation. I go next week for an ultrasound or MRI guided biopsy and getting quite nervous again. Has anyone else had something not show up on a mammo but then it does on an MRI?

Hi KelliSuze, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you find yourself here, worrying about breast cancer again, but we're glad you've found us. As you're sure to see, our amazing Community is full of incredible members always willing to weigh in with their advice, experience, and support -- we're all here for you as you figure out what's going on!

As for your MRI, mammograms and MRIs show different things, so it's very possible that your MRI picked up something your mammogram didn't -- which is a good thing! There's a reason doctors integrate MRIs into your follow-up screening care -- they want to make sure they are viewing all aspects of your breast health. For more information, check out the main Breastcancer.org site's pages on What Mammograms Show and Breast MRI for Screening.

We hope this helps. Please keep us posted with your results -- we're thinking of you!

    KelliSuze

My cancer did not show up on mammogram, but did on MRI. I think this may be more normal if you have Lobular carcinoma which I did have.
