As someone who has had plenty of BIRADs4 biopsies, I have always been thrilled when I can avoid an unnecessary biopsy. I've had lots of BIRADs3 6-month follow-ups over the years, and none ever turned out to be anything serious. So I've always been fine with waiting when I've had a BIRADs3. I also find that 6 months is a long enough time that it's easy to get it out if my mind. I assume that all is well and that I'll get further confirmation of this in 6 months. And then I don't think about it again until I'm heading out to the follow-up appointment.

The description of your masses fit the criteria for a benign mass. The report even notes that there are no "suspicious characteristics". It's based on this that the BIRADs3 was assigned - this means that the Radiologist assesses a less than 2% risk that these masses could be cancer. Personally I would trust the Radiologist. But you have to do what makes you comfortable.

One option might be to get another assessment of the imaging, to see if a second opinion agrees that this is low enough risk that repeat imaging in 6-months is the most appropriate follow-up.

hi beesie, when I asked my gp he got cross with me and said I can’t have a biopsy just because I am worried. I intend seeing another dr today as I feel like my anxiety is getting out of control . I suffer with ocd which I have been hospitalized for it the past and am on medication for . His attitude did not help me at all

Biopsies aren't done just because you want one, there has to be a medical reason. It's a waste of the interventional radiologist's time and resources, and a waste of your money, because I can't believe any insurance would pay if it's not a medical necessity. Perhaps you should ask your primary doctor for a referral to help you with your health anxiety.

I realize that I have also seen posts from other women that have had a biopsy for a Birads 3 . I will speak to the dr about my anxiety although I’m not sure it’s health anxiety or my ocd rearing it’s head .

Hi Mary! I think a 6 month wait is reasonable. They will monitor and check again to see if there have been any changes. I know easier said than done, but try not to worry. They are professionals and generally, cancer tends to present itself with certain characteristics on imaging. And since they can see the lumps, as indicated in your report, and the lumps arent presenting with these characteristics, I would think it is appropriate to wait the 6 months.
