Will insurance pay for new implants if you're unhappy?
Hi there. I got my exchange surgery yesterday, and the implants are actually bigger than what I was expecting. Will they look smaller as swelling goes down and they settle? Will insurance pay for me to get smaller ones if I'm unhappy with these? I'm guessing not.

Danee - One day???? you need to wait 2-3 MONTHS before everything settles down. Especially since it looks like you have your exchange was such a short time after your mastectomy. In fact - the conventional wisdom is "step away from the mirror". Honestly you shouldn't even look at this point since it's total unrepresentative of the final product.
Yes, sure - you can have more reconstruction & revisions, and I believe it is paid for, but way to soon to consider.

Hi MinusTwo. I feel like I don't know enough about this and wish my surgeon had taken more time to talk to me about it all.
I am very stressed out by the whole thing.
-
Danee - truly - walk away from the mirror. Don't look & don't think about it for at LEAST two weeks. Then know there will still be changes like I said for two+ months. Take a look at the "exchange" thread to see what others have experienced.

Danee - I got your PM and here's the link. I'm posting on this thread in case others also might want to read. There are almost 1400 pages so there will surely be lots of people saying "step away from the mirror"

Thanks MinusTwo. I think I'm upset over this because I'm emotionally fried. Since January I've dealt with the BC diagnosis, mastectomy, the pandemic and world falling apart, my father died, the implant surgery, and a number of other things. I just want to like my new boobs and feel good about life again.
I got my TEs filled to 350 cc's and thought I might want my boobs to be a little bigger. I've been so emotionally overwhelmed that I was having trouble making decisions. Instead of filling the TEs some more so I could see what bigger would look like, my PS said she would just put larger implants in during surgery, anywhere up to 450 I think. Now they look awfully big to me. I don't get it because the tissue removed during mastectomy was 433 on the right and 517 on the left. Seems like my implants would look smaller than my original boobs, not bigger.
Thanks for listening and for your advice. I'll check out that thread you linked.

Danee - hang in there girl. You've been through the ringer. If you can manage to look away for awhile, we'd love to hear back from you in - say - September about what you think then.

Danee,
Let me start by saying that you have , indeed, had a very stressful year and I am so sorry that you lost your father on top of everything else.
My situation was different as I had no TE's but had a one step procedure that went straight to my permanent implants. I really like them and I pretty much look the same as pre-bmx. However, they looked unevenly swollen and generally not quite right for a good while. I'm not sure when they began to look good but it was at least 6 weeks! I did know this in advance, but I can understand your surprise if you weren't informed about what to expect post-op. This could be a good time to devote to yourself if you can. A little calm, healing time and trying not to stress over what you can't control is something you not only deserve, but need 💗
So I am in complete agreement with MinusTwo (forgive my stupidity after all this time, but I just realized what your username means 🤦🏻) . Way, way too soon to really see the final result. BTW, many women have revisions for a multitude of reasons and I don't recall anyone posting about problems with insurance coverage

Hi exbrnxgirl. I think you're right. I need a little zen and to relax about the boobs. I think I was having an anxiety attack earlier today!
I didn't know what to expect post-op, my PS didn't discuss it very much. Thank goodness for this forum.

Hi.
I have had an almost similar year, but not as bad. Major family issues were the hardest but no deaths.
Out of all of this crud this year, I developed extreme anxiety. I was short of breath even resting in bed, I was shaking, my chest was tight, I had a big hard lump in my throat, and my shoulders were so tense. I didn't always know what was happening, but I finally got a diagnosis.
I now take anti-anxiety meds, but those weren't nearly enough. I discovered Mindfulness and it's made a HUGE difference!
I'm able to relax and let things go. I'm able to handle what's going on. I can step away from a situation anytime and anywhere with short exercises. It's amazing!
I use an App called "Breethe" but there are also other apps like headspace or 10 percent. Anyway, it has instructions and guided exercises that relax my body, remove my mind from everything except that exact moment, helping me to be fully aware of my body, and then explore ideas with my mind. It's been a complete game changer. I've learned how to control pain, increase gratitude, pursue healing my body, understand and minimize my anxiety, get help sleeping, help me let go of what I can't or shouldn't control, heal relationships, etc, etc, etc. They have stuff on dealing with covid or election stress as well.
Anyway, I think all of us need some of this in our lives. (that and faith, but that's my own opinion)
Good luck!
