Last June my mammogram showed a new area of concern. Called back for ultrasound. Report was probably benign, but recheck in 6 months. Went in December and report was similar. Not much change. Now, it has grown and the radiologist met with me to say I needed it biopsied along with another solid area in the same breast. I am concerned that it should have been biopsied last year. What percentage of changing masses treated with this protocol end up being malignant

Hi Marcar1, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you find yourself here and worrying, but we're glad you've found us. We know it's hard not to have concerns, but according to this page from the main Breastcancer.org site on Breast Cysts, it seems pretty standard as a way to make sure there's nothing serious going on.

Others will be by shortly to weigh in too, but we just wanted to welcome you and offer some helpful info! Please keep us posted with what you find out after biopsy.

I'm having a similar issue. I have been on a 6 month follow up for a while. I have a complex cyst that has also grown(as per my last check). I was told to follow up in three months. If I may ask, what does your new report say and what is your birads score?

The biopsy Monday was gruesome. It was an US guided core needle biopsy in two areas of the same breast. It really hurt, even with the numbing they did first. At one point, I felt a warm, wet trickle go across my chest, down my neck and into my hair. I knew it was blood, but was still shocking to see it when they finally cleaned me up. My breast is the purplest bruise I've ever had, swollen and aching. Waiting for results. They told me I should know in 72 hours. The waiting is so hard.

Marcar, we know the waiting is hard. Hang in there and try to keep yourself distracted as much as possible. We're crossing fingers for benign results!

well, I had a bump this winter I got biopsied - on the ultrasound report they said it was likely a complex cyst. the biopsy results were stromal tissue? the bump shrank after biopsy but has since grown! I am going to ask my doctor again about it but just letting you know I have a "proven to be benign" thing that has grown in size
