Palpable lump only ultrasound found it

New to this forum so apologies up front If I don't do this right. I had a rash on my left breast so felt around and found a hard lump at 10 o'clock. My primary was out so went straight to a new breast doc who got me in ASAP. Wasn't worried about the rash as it comes and goes and she felt it more dermatitis. She did ultrasound the lump which she wants to biopsy Tuesday of this week. It's part solid and not compressible, 1.6cm and has blood flow which has her concerned but she's also saying it's homogenous, with an echo and regular borders which I understand is good, At first she was leaning towards a lipoma or Fibroadenoma but it's got conflicting characteristics so she's unsure that's why the core biopsy. Anybody have something like this? I had a biopsy in 2011 same breast with enlarged lymph nodes which had to be removed all was negative though. Just want some feedback because what's even more confusing is MRI & mammogram showed nothing at all but doctor felt it herself and found it on ultrasound immediately. I’m high riskshe says that my Gale score is high due to family history & past biopsy. Thoughts?

    So sorry you're dealing with this! You're taking the correct steps in getting a biopsy, that's the only way you'll know for sure. When I initially went to the doctor for my palpable lump, it didn't show up on ultrasound or mammogram. Keep in mind, one type of imaging doesn't always show the whole story, which is why we go for so many in these situations. Good luck and keep us updated!

    Thanks for your reply. It’s been crazy. Biopsy was on Tuesday it was not fun at all. The five shots to numb my breast we’re the worst. Once the core biopsy was being done I felt nothing. They took 7 samples from the one lump in my left breast. Before we started the dr did another ultrasound and at one point she said “wait let me see the ultrasound from last week.,” at which point the nurse showed her and she seemed to be comparing the two. She explained again that it did not compress when she pushed on it and she looked a bit concerned. She’s super kind and one of the best in town so I feel in good hands. Just very nervous. I had pain that night with the compression bandage around my chest but relieved when I took it off the next day. I was a little upset that when I took off the gauze pad and tape that it peeled my skin to an open wound like a burst blister. At the beginning of tape and at the end under my breast. It’s very sore so using neosporin. The steri strips are still in place and only slightly bruised. One question is it customary to take so many biopsies of one 1.6cm lump? That took me by surprise. Thanks for any and all feedback.

    Glad your biopsy is done.

    There's nothing unusual about taking 7 biopsy samples. Breast masses often contain a mix of different things, so you have the best chance of getting a definitive result - whether benign or not - if there are more samples taken.

    Good luck with the result...hopefully it is benign.
