White Bump on Nipple Head

Hello!

I discovered a white bump on my nipple, the size of the other regular bumpy stuff, but not part of my skin. I scraped it and it came off fairly easily, no pain. I'm not sure how long it's been there...my SO says a long time, but he gave me no real timeline.

I would think perhaps a whitehead, but it wasn't liquidy and didn't really seem encased...more thick/solid, but perhaps because it's been around for a bit.

I'm 43, never breast fed, been on an IUD for several years (going to google...IUD possible culprit?)...had first mammogram 6 mos ago and they saw several things they suspect may just be thicker areas/growths in the breasts, and wanted me to return in 6 mos (now), but with Covid, I'm being cautious and wasn't rushing/worried since I'm high-risk asthmatic and caring for my elderly mother. I do regular self-exams with no changes. Now this.

Anyone ever have experience with this strange growth?

    Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry that these breast changes have brought you here but glad that you reached out. We hope that some others might offer their experiences to you. Most here will say that most breast changes should be brought to your GP or GYN's attention largely for peace of mind. Otherwise googling breast changes and symptoms can often cause more worry. We hear you about the precautions that you must take in light of covid19 but maybe a call to your practice or a virtual health visit to ask for advice of a medical practitioner would ease your concerns. Do let us know what you learn when you get more information.

    Stopped up/cysts of the Montgomery glands on your. nipple are common. They can be like a sebaceous cyst with thick white “cheesy” material in them

    Thank you so, so very much, Melissa... I have no other symptoms...thank you for helping to ease my mind. I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. I'm under a lot of stress right now, as I'm sure you can assume; I know I'm not the only one. Also in the midst of a possible diagnoses of Alpha-gal Syndrome. Your words helped greatly to ease my worry, and to let me know there's a possibility it's nothing to worry about. I'm awaiting word back from my doctor on whether or not I can start this diagnosis via Telehealth. It seems like they may require me to come in. But, this may be great in my doing the 6-month follow-up mammogram I had to delay.

    Thank you @moderator, for your great advice and guidance. As you suggested, I reached out and am trying to get a Telehealth visit. I had a strange reaction last week, to another health matter, which caused me to place this issue on the back burner until today. I've been feeling very overwhelmed, but taking this step of connecting with the doctor is helping me to feel more empowered, and to look forward to putting this issue behind me, and moving forward. Again, thank you for being kind and understanding, while reinforcing the proper belief that getting an actual diagnosis from a professional is tantamount to anything.

    Hello! I went to the doctor and also completed my bilateral ultrasound, and all is well! There's nothing to worry about, and my masses have had no significant growth in the last 6 months and are assumed to be benign. I go back for a mammogram in 4 months and then another ultrasound in a year. Thanks SO much for helping to ease my mind, and for encouraging me to follow up. I am grateful for both of your feedback and input, @MelissaDallas and @Moderators. Words cannot express my thanks!
