Shetland, it is a melted cheese with salsa mixed in. It is sold with tortilla chips to dip in. I use shredded cheese but also like a couple of spoonfuls of it on top with crushed up tortilla chips. The brand name is Tostitos.
-
Oooohhh! Mystery solved. Thanks, Mara!
-
Ok, I’m now craving nachos! Mara, I’m guessing you have made some kickass nachos in your day. I like black beans too. Oh how I wish we could get together over a plate of nachos in Mel’s living room! We’d gab for hours.
Waving hi to my Tanya. So weird how we only met once, but I feel like she’s my sister. Kind of like all of you here...
-
Booboo, I have beans, a small amount of cheese with queso and tiny handful of crushed tortilla chips every day. Love those meals. Nutritious too.
-
Do you buy the queso in a jar already mixed? I saw a commercial where they use Velvetta cheese and add salsa and then microwave it. Man, does that ever so7nd good
-
hey everyone, I did finally fall asleep after texting my night owl son for fresh icepacks several times to keep the fever down & just trying to focus on the tv show. My.anxiety really kicks in at times likes that too so that's not helpful
The fevers are getting worse now. MO & i have a sort of unwritten rule - if I'm over 40 C, if bp is dropping, or if my mental cognition is affected, I need to call the mo and proceed to ER. Otherwise i can self manage at home. I've been hitting low to mid 39 a few times so if it keeps crawling up, I don't know what will happen.
I like the idea someone mentioned of a sticky note of everyone's scan / big appt dates. I will start doing that.
Hugs everyone
-
booboo1- my dad LOVES the velveeta cheese dip. I think he could eat it everyday
- 1 can (10 oz each) Ro*Tel® Original Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, undrained
- 1 pkg (16 oz each) Velveeta®, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- To make in microwave, combine undrained tomatoes and Velveeta in 1-1/2-quart microwave-safe dish; cover. Microwave on HIGH 5 minutes or just until Velveeta melts, stirring after 3 minutes. Remove from microwave; stir until mixture is blended. CAUTION: Dish will be hot; use hot pads. For a double recipe, microwave on HIGH 8 minutes or until Velveeta melts, stirring after 5 minutes. Drain 1 can of tomatoes if a thicker dip is preferred.

Oh Moth~I don't like those fevers. I'm so sorry you're dealing with things like this. All we need is our rest. Without it. Forget it. For me just the suggestion of the symptoms of covid, I think I've surely gotten it. I really hope you feel better. Geez this is so hard.
It looks like some states are opening soon. If that's a good idea I don't know. Some say yes yes yes others not so much. I'm just wanting to be able to be around others and not fear for my life of catching something. Obviously no hanging on each other. But I miss my kids snuggles. Part of me knows no one really knows for sure. But I am more and more certain this is not a natural borne virus. It would have happened long ago. Had it started the way they say it did. Which sucks. Innocent people dealing and hurting over someone else choices. Isn't that the way of it. ?
-
okay now I’m hungry dodgers!!
-
Here is the brand of queso that I use. I don't make it. If you don't sell it like that in the US, I am quite sure melting velveeta and adding salsa to taste would be the same as this.

-
Dodgers girl, that is a great instructional to make queso similar to what I have. Awesome. I eat this every single day as it is not huge in calories. If I was going to cut back on the calorie load, I would skip the shredded cheese and just go with queso. Currently, I have not tired of having queso with every meal, including breakfast. I do grind up my high fiber flakes and use them with bran to amp up the fiber in these meals. Needless to say, between doing that and my digestive enzymes, my digestive system is much better all the way down. Thank goodness.
-
Moth sorry about your painful feverish night. Glad to hear ice packs every pain killer in the medicine chest and murder she wrote did the trick. Is t amazing what breaks pain and insomnia.
Shetland thanks for asking about the queso.
Mara I was wondering about your queso too. I’m going to try dodgers girl recipe with substitutions. I have quinoa black bean tortillas, regular cheddar and salsa. If it resembles food when I’m done melting I post a pic.
Mel congrats on the new phone. My DH bought a charger from Verizon yesterday and they tried to sell him a. Phone for mother’s dayhaaaah! The phone was half price and get the other phone free but you have to take a new phone number. We’re trying to figure out how to do it w/o changing number. I guess we have until Sunday.
Moomala how are you.
Candy thanks for keeping us in a post it note by your computer. You are a kind compassionate soul.
I’m afraid I’ve eaten all the cookies 🍪 Mel. I don’t bake very much anymore bc I’m a fiend and will eat cookies for breakfast and snack all day like a kid ruining my appetite for nutritious food until I get belly ache. We can eat the queso and dip and I’ll bake a batch on the night before.
Booboo how are you. When we get a clear way from corona we’re doing breakfast lunch dinner a walk-very short on the beach 🏖 anything else we can think of!

Sharing my experiences regarding renewing meds:
I tried to renew my Vit D3 prescription. A week later still no med in the mail so I called the pharmacy. They checked into my script history and said they are out of Vit D3 in soft capsules.
Hubby got a new script for eye drops. Local CVS can’t fill it as they are out of the drops.
Wondering if this is just a coincidence or if med shortages are coming due to COVID19
-
Dodgers,
Thanks! Now I have the recipe!
Mara, yes, I’ve seen the Tostitos brand at the grocery. I’ll buy some and try it too. Yummy!
Moth, I really hope you are ok. I had the flu this past winter and thought that was as bad as it gets. But not according to those who have had this virus. Mel, I tend to agree with you....I’m not convinced this wasn’t a great big screwup or even intentional. But I hate to think that way.
-
It is quite yummy and with only a couple spoonfuls, not high in calories. My issue is all the other stuff I like to add to it. Really just need to have cheese once per day instead of twice or three times. Queso fills the gap for sure. Love it.

Hello all.
Tired today. Woke last night at 2:30 am out of a nightmare. I think I screamed, but I live alone so who knows. Heart pounding. Then my back started in with hurting so no more sleep. Up at 6 to start the day as usual--feed cat and eat breakfast so I can take meds. Dozed this afternoon, but definitely ready for bed tonight. Hopefully the pain won't keep me up. My pain is worse at night.
Nachos sound good, but I have so much heartburn anymore I feel like a fire breathing dragon already. LOL.
My note says Moomala had scans today??? Moomala- Any results yet?
Bev- I don't have date for your scans, just May. What is the date?
Moth- Hope you are feeling better.
-
Hi, Candy,
Sorry for your unfortunate night last night. It's the worst when something like that wakes you up and you just lay there waiting for the morning. Also hope the pain is lessened tonight.
I have my CT scan on May 19th. Pretty sure I'll have a treatment change due to rising TMs. My doc doesn't like to change meds without progression on scans, but with lobular, hard to see sometimes on the scans.
Isn't heartburn a side effect of Ibrance? I take omeprazole so I can avoid it, but again, that's another med that folks might not want to add.
-
Hi candy, sorry to hear about your nightmare and being up at 2am. Hate it when that happens for sure.
Nachos are good, only reason I am able to eat any of this stuff are digestive enzymes. They really have saved me. Allows me to eat almost anything. If it is too spicy, I just add one of my rabeprazole to the meal.
I am stuffed as I had enough money from my penny sites to order a large burger dinner with cinnamon donuts and it was free for me. It was delicious but then older brother called and asked if I wanted to go for a drive. They offered to buy me a treat other than pop but I had to decline as I was so full. We drove to a park, had my SIL and I dressed warmer, we could have walked around as it is quite a nice park. It was a nice evening as I was quite tired from washing all my blankets. Since I only have a portable washer, it does not spin the blankets and I have to lift soaking wet blankets to get them to my big panda spinner. They are really heavy. Would love to be able to get a washer that also spins out the laundry first so I don't have to break my arms. I might save for one anyway and figure it out later. We will see.
-
Mara~You're a hard working woman. You do alot each day. I can't imagine not having the washer spin out of the clothing and how heavy that would be. Wow Tough woman you are...
Hope for sleep tonight.
P.s.philly sends her best. To everyone! She was so sad to hear about our sisters that we have lost.recently. She was saddened for sure. It’s hard It’s also a reason it makes you not want to come back. Mae~ she asks about you and adores your spunk! We love you!
love to all tonightMoth ~ feel better.
Moomala~? -
I had scans today but I won't find out results until my appointment with MO next Thursday. Ugh I hate that they make you wait but it's the way she rolls. I am better at putting it out of my mind until the appointment but it is still not fair.
Today's CT drink was some nasty stuff mixed with cran-apple juice. It was gross and I had a few urpy moments afterwards. My stomach's still a little "off" hours later but I've drunk plenty of water and hopefully it'll be gone tomorrow. With CT and bone scan the same day it's a bit of a tiring day as you know. Especially so if you have an allergy to contrast dye and have to pre-medicate the night before with massive prednisone. I woke up at three am and didn't get back to sleep so I'm going to bed soon. Glad this day is over. I am always concerned over the contrast allergy but so far the pre-meds have worked. Fingers crossed.
BevJen, my TMs were upward the last two months. I don't have lobular but I frequently get a subsequent bone scan or Pet that mentions lesions that are not visible on CT. This is a little scary. MO lowered my dose of Afinitor around two months ago to combat fatigue and now wants to have conversation with me. I know what she's going to say but I have a few ideas of my own to ask her about. She will want to bring my dose back up to full, or start me on Piqray. I'm going to talk to her about going up to full dose Afinitor again and switch from Aromasin to Faslodex via some evidence shown on another thread.
You know how the patient is the only one allowed in the facility and spouses/caregivers have to wait in the car. So DH sat and waited for me in the car. I had a little break in between the two scans so I as allowed to go out to the car and have a lunch he and I had packed together. Plenty of people sitting in their cars in the lot. A man got out of his car and although he looked around for anyone walking by who could see him while HE PEE'D ON A TREE, he just plain forgot about all the people waiting in the cars in the parking lot. Plenty of people were laughing - I wish I could have ESP'd them all to roll down their windows and clap when he got done. So funny.
-
Moomala~Good grief ~sounds like quite the day you had there getting your scans. No one said a little entertainment would ever harm anyone. I would have laughed my ass off. That's so funny. Like when you're in your car and for some reason people think they are not able to seen. They pick their noses, sing, really loud, just think they are in their own world. No one else around to see this taking place. In real time he could have gotten a ticket for disorderly conduct, or exposure for peeing in public. Citizens. Arrest!!!
-
Moomala— glad your scans are behind you now. Hope you get to sleep tonight.
Micmel - thanks for the update from philly.
Waving to Illimae and Philly. Wishing good days ahead 👋
Candy- my scans are next Wednesday. Will be like Moomala in that all CTs and Bone Scan will be on the same day. No CT drink though. As I have mentioned before, I have to drink 32 oz of water 30 mins before the scans. And hope I don’t pee my pants.
Mara51506– I read all that you do in a day and think it’s amazing. You are spunky. Love it
Headed to bed. Hope to sleep all night
-
Insomnia rearing it’s ugly head tonight. No nap today either. Thought I’d battle through. Had trouble falling asleep and now I’m awake again! Arghhhhhh! okay ladies I actually found cleanser today. The microban 24 suppose to kill germs flat. I almost did a corona shuffle to the registers. I was happy. Now if only amazon would get our wipes here we’d be set. Hope you other night warriors are doing good. Gonna try again!!
-
Morning all.
Mel- Hope you finally got some sleep.
BevJen- I use Pepcid daily for the heartburn with Tums as needed. My PCP just poopoos the complaints of the heartburn. What the crap!! I tell him that if I bend over after eating, I can have a mouthful of stuff. I don't know. Guess just deal with it.
Missing Philly. I know that hearing of our sisters succumbing to the cancer is hard, but I miss when one of us stops posting.
Moomala- Laughing about your parking lot story !!! Prayers for your scan results.
Dodgers- I have to drink 32oz of contrast 1 hour before my scans. And Yes, I worry I will pee my pants on the scanner table. LOL.
-
Candy ~The last time I drank the contrast, it was berry and. It bad at all. I’d rather have my own drinks. But it’s better than the plain hand lotion we had to drink. It went down easier. And I heard them say they more flavors then that also It’s about damn time. Someone important must have had to drink it for a scan and said. Wtf is this shit? On and off sleep last night. Don’t know why. Didn’t even nap. I tried to see if it would help I’m still learning my new normal. Four and half years later .
-
Rain, Rain ,Rain,Rain. All it does is rain. Already makes being home Rougher, I wish I had a screened in porch. I’d go sit outside with a blanket and read or listen to the rain. Some places even have snow falling. No thanks. In May? Almost half way through already. Wow Time flys. Gotta find something to do !
-
Micmel— please read the can of Microban 24. Their web site says their products kill bacteria but not viruses in the same wayas explained here:
*when used as directed and within 5 minutes, Microban 24 Multi-Purpose Cleaner is effective against bacteria and viruses including Human Coronavirus, Influenza A H1N1, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus. Microban does not provide 24-hour residual virus protection
-
Dodgers~Thank you. My DH was right on target with it. It's good for surfaces but good old alcohol wipes are the best. We are always looking for disinfectants Especially now. To get a pack of wipes means you may have wonthe lottery.
It still works for colds and other things I am not really interested in getting. I looked up effective cleaners for corona. The microban 24 was on the list. But you never know.
-
I still have rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide from a while ago. Not out of it yet. I mostly still clean with oxiclean or vinegar. I wash bags I went shopping with and wash hands. Steam clean my face masks, do not trust a washing machine won't cause the little wire to become misshapen. Have not done the paper mask I still have from the cancer clinic to see if it would survive a steam. Steam will definitely kill infectious matter and not cause me to run out of the other stuff in case I need first aid for other things besides corona.
-
Wow, so amazon is limiting regular cleaning supplies. Some of my staples for cleaning bathroom and sink areas are prioritized for frontline covid organizations. I understand that hospitals, paramedic, cleaners need these things for sure but it is getting hard to come by regular things for the household cleaning. I cannot find them readily at the grocery store. I will continue with vinegar as I will not pay the price gougers on Amazon sites who charge 15.00 for something that would normally be two dollars. Ridiculous. I would have preferred seeing limits imposed instead so everyone can get what they need. Guess I will be going store to store to see what I can get and keeping an eye out for bleach.
