Remember When!!
Comments
-
In college when everyone had long hair, I remember puling my hair into a ponytail on the top of my head and sleeping with 3 or 4 enormous rollers (some girls used beer cans). I remember some girls actually ironing their hair to make it straight.
-
I have pin straight hair and often envied girls who had the thick wavy hair and "had" to iron to make it straight!! I did put my hair up at night in a ponytail with large rollers to try to get some curl!!! I remember the ratting hair era also!! Totally damaged my fragile hair, but we "had" to do it to match all the girls in high school!! How about the Sassoon Pixie Cut in the late 1960s!!
-
Not sure if these were in all shoe stores at the time, but I remember the x-ray machines in Buster Brown shoe stores, to see if your shoes fit correctly.
-
ruthbru...yes my Mom had her weekly 'beauty parlor' appointments too.
-
yes to my Mom's weekly beauty parlor appointments. When my Mom had her big stroke at 80 that turned her into a vegetable, the lady that had always done her hair came to the house every two weeks to continue to wash & cut my Mom's hair for the 12 years she lay in that bed. Mother never knew, but Antoinette was a gem.
And yes to the X-ray machines to BusterBrown shoes.
-
Antoinette sounds like a wonderful person!
I remember when boys had crew cuts, and then they all had long hair, and then the guys were all getting perms and had 'Afros'.
-
Remember the old Sears catalogues?
-
How about the Montgomery Ward and Spiegel catalogs?! Use to love to dream as I looked through them. Unfortunately, the clothes never seemed to fit well and were returned with disappointment!! Kind of sounds like shopping online these days!!
-
I got a Wards catalogue a few weeks ago. Thought they were out of business?
-
From the 80's...remember Christmas Around the World (House of Lloyd) demonstration parties? I loved that stuff!
-
Remember the old fridges (also called ice boxes). They had a small freezer section on top that you had to manually defrost every so often. What a mess.
-
anyone remember the real deal iceboxes, with a big chunk of ice in the top compartment"
-
My dad called the refrigerator 'the ice box' his whole life.
I remember having to defrost the freezer. Not a fun job chipping away at all the ice buildup.
-
With all the pots of boiling water you could fit in to speed it up.
-
Gramma - yes, I remember my Grandpa had a real IceBox in his basement & got blocks of ice to keep his homemade rootbeer cold.
-
JO-5, I did the same. Loved the French twist , Anyone remember when teenage boys sported mohawks?
-
We called it helmet hair.
-
Thank you all for my laughs each day during this stay home period!! Love the pics!! Keep it going!!
Remember heating wells in the top of your stove! What were they for--water, soups, ???
-
Gma on the farm had water well, wood burning cook stove. Made the best biscuits. I always thought it was used if the top was too hot, or something burning.
Does anybody cook from scratch anymore?
-
I don’t have enough hair to cover my scalp, thanks ibrance😂😂😂😂😂
I try to stay away from the stove now.
Some of that stuff our moms, and maybe us, made for parties leaves me to shake my head.
-
JELLO with fruit in it.
Or Ambrosia.
-
Or, green jello with carrots in it!!! I hated it at the time, but it actually sounds pretty good right now since I am craving something different from cooking from scratch at home so long during this stay home period.
-
green jello with canned pineapple.
-
How about those trendy desserts?? I remember making "cherries in the snow" (cherry pie filling on top of some type of cream cheese/sugar/?? mix) many, many times years ago, but haven't made it since!
-
Remember toys in the bottom of the cereal box or cutting out an Archie's 45 from the back.
-
Remember how casually we used to go out to run errands and visit with friends in restaurants!!! (Sorry, the stay home orders for COVID have me longing for the "good old days" of two months ago!)
-
Mood rings!
-
1960's
1970's
1980's
-
Did your mom ever put tape on the bottom of your bangs when she cut them?
-
I did. And screwed them up badly😂😂😂
