Nervous and Anxious

Hi! I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in October of 2019. I began chemo in November and finished in March. I am scheduled for surgery on 23 April. My surgeon was going over the procedure and I became extremely nervous when she mentioned the needle localization. Pleas HELP! I'm more terrified of the thought of this than I have been throughout this process. I have no idea what to expect. Can someone help calm my fears?

    JavaJava,

My sister-in-law had the needle localization done and said it was excruciating. I don't like needles at all and I could feel my anxiety as the surgeon was speaking about it. I am always nervous beforehand when thinking of procedures where I won't be under anesthesia. When my port was placed I was perfectly fine, but had a full panic attack the first day of chemo with the thought of them accessing the port. Thank you so much for giving me some hope that this won't be as painful as I anticipate.

Oh wow. Hopefully your chemo goes well with minimal discomfort. I was a little nervous about the chemo because of stories I'd heard about feeling ill. Thankfully, I didn't endure much of that. I changed my diet to high alkaline and that helped a lot. I am an EMT and still worked on an ambulance after my treatments until about 3 weeks before I finished. My medical team told me chemo had to be done first because my cancer was so aggressive. The only thing I had from the chemo was the metallic taste in my mouth constantly. My biopsy did hurt but only because I metabolize medications quickly and the lidocaine wore off before it was done. I wish you the best outcome while going through your chemo. It is amazing how many different treatment plans can be derived for the same disease.
