I have opted to start Xeloda after radiation due to several studies showing a benefit - https://www.breastcancer.org/research-news/xeloda-improves-survival-for-some

I do not have 'residual disease' because I had surgery first, but my pathology indicated 4 involved nodes, so I am doing whatever possible to keep this beast away forever.

My MO has approved this based on discussion with the tumor board and others in my NCI-designated system, so that is comforting.

Has anyone done decided to do Xeloda by choice? I hope I am not crazy or delaying HT that could be even more beneficial. I meet with my MO soon, so I will be sure to ask these questions.

    Hello Berries,

Yes-my MO prescribed Xeloda for me after much back and forth discussion. It was ultimately my choice. I did 6 months of the treatment, two weeks on, one week off. I had surgery first, then chemo. No radiation. I am ( was) triple negative. I’m a little over 2 years out from diagnosis.

    Hi Berries,

My MO also put me on Xeloda after finishing chemo/surgery/radiation. The decision was based upon my tumor changing from her2- to her2+ after chemo. I started HP during radiation and Xeloda after radiation. I had a second opinion by a specialist, who did not recommend Xeloda, but I decided to go with what my MO and the tumor board at my cancer center recommended.

It is tough to follow through - I am starting to really feel side effects and the Xeloda is not standard treatment - but there really is no standard treatment for people who go from her2- to her2+ after chemo...
