Chemo after Radiation?

Since I am in the grey area of doing Chemo or not ( one sentinel node positive with oncotype score 8 and high ki-67 30-40%and grade 3, multifocal) and Covid-19, ( 2 oncologist said I do not need to do Chemo, one oncologist recommends Chemo ). I am thinking of doing radiation first at the end of this month and then do Chemo afterwards. My radiation oncologist agrees also.

Does anybody know what is the cons of doing Chemo after radiation? I know I should do Chemo immediately after radiation.

Thank you.

What kind of surgery are you having and do you know when you will be having it? Myself, I would go for chemo before radiation because it is systemic and can take care of any other cancer cells that might be floating around. Radiation is local.

Hi dear cowgirl13,I am in bay area also San Jose. So nice to meet you here. I also met another lady who has the same surgeon as mine in this forum!

I just did lumpectomy on Mar.12, another reexcision to clean margin which found out I had another small 0.2mm IDC. So I had total 3 areas close to each other have IDC, 10mm, 7mm, 2mm. Radiation oncologist said I can do radiation first this end of month to buy me more time of thinking of doing Chemo or not and also avoid of doing Chemo during this crazy covid19 time. I know this is notstandard and have not talked to Oncologist yet, I know my oncologist would not recommend this way.

Hi bbbddd, how nice to know you are just 'down the road' in San Jose. Please know that I understand how important that you are comfortable and can really get behind your treatment decision.

With that said, here are a couple of things I could add to perhaps be considered. The MO's area of expertise and experience is chemo and the RO's area is radiology. I believe the MO's recommendation would then trump the RO's rec. Just my thought here. Have you considered a second opinion re: chemo?

Let me also say that re: chemo, I told my MO that I would rather be dead than go through chemo and to my great surprise chemo wasn't that bad. I loved the chemo nurses and everyone that I had contact with in the MO office.

These are just a few thoughts and again I want to emphasize that you have to be comfortable with what you feel is your best path forward. Keep us posted.

    Liz
