Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

This map is from the Washington Post and can be viewed without a subscription. It breaks down cases by state and gives numbers per 100k of population.

haha! Thanks for the laugh!

Well, magiclight, we all know that's because all those victims (including innocent children) weren't worthy of being saved by their deity. Or maybe they just didn't pray hard enough, or ate fish on Friday, or had impure thoughts. Or maybe they didn't vote the right way.
I've given up trying to figure out what makes those people tick. I just wish that whatever it is, they keep it to themselves. I've been social distancing from right wing christians for many years now.😁
-
Listening to Joe Biden on MSNBC tonight and he gives the perfect meaning of faith....not religious but something that gives you the ability to go inside yourself and find the meaning you have for what you are a part of.....it's about connection and faith is trusting you will still have connection. Perfect! (Has he been listening to Brene Brown?).
-
Omg, magiclight, your meme! So true!
And Trishy, your reply is spot on: “we all know that's because all those victims (including innocent children) weren't worthy of being saved by their deity. Or maybe they just didn't pray hard enough, or ate fish on Friday, or had impure thoughts. Or maybe they didn't vote the right way”.
-
-
The guy with the mic is Ohio Governor Mike DeWine who put stay-at-home orders in place till May 1.
-
-
Wait!! God didn’t heal him? Didn’t he pray hard enough?? Yay karma!!!
-
Unfortunately, Typhoid Gerald and his idiot flock will have the deaths of many innocent people at their feet.
-
Boosting the signal, the NIH is doing a study trying to quantify undetected COVID cases: asymptomatic cases, "I was sick, but I didn't go to the hospital" cases, "I went to the hospital, but they turned me away" cases. If this is something you'd like to volunteer for, email them.
-
Miri...I'll pass along that good information from NIH

I live in a small, rural, conservative town with 13 churches. For a population of...3,500 on a great day. Yep, THIRTEEN churches.
I dont go out often as I am immunocompromised. Just got over two bouts of lymphedema-related cellulitis back to back on top of it. Caused by doctor error. Anyway, this mostly Christian town hasn't taken this C-19 pandemic too seriously. Most folks arent wearing masks or practicing social distancing. They voice frequent scepticism about it. And, after all, "God" or "Jesus" will protect them. Yeah, but that wont protect me from THEM should they be positive for the virus. And this is what infuriates me. I am very resentful about their reckless behavior due to fanciful beliefs. They put EVERYBODY at risk. Head-banging behavior! Yikes.
-
it's infuriating how many stupid people are out there endangering everyone else. And for such idiotic reasons, like wanting a damn haircut!
-
Yikes, Stella. You should be furious. You would think that protecting others would be reason enough to wear a mask. I don't know why these people are so confident. After all, the preacher in Alabama that wouldn't close his church died of Covid 19. No supernatural being kept him safe.
-
Stella, we have a similar situation in our community. DH goes to the grocery store every Sunday and comes home furious that he is generally the only one practicing social distancing and wearing a mask.....including cashiers. I have encouraged him to start going to a grocery store that at least requires it’s cashiers to wear PPE.
-
I'm in a rural area that has a relatively small infection rate and all stores, from Walmart to the grocery stores and drug stores have employees wearing masks. Aisles are one way and admission is limited.
It seems like the front line workers are doing all the heavy lifting and the one job the rest of us have is to stay home and wear a mask when we go out. For some even that is too difficult. When jobs do come back, I for one would not want those folks working in my store. How about some reference on the job application re: did you stay home and did you wear a mask when out?
-
If the front line workers were the ones doing the daily press briefings maybe ppl would be more mindful. It tears me up to listen to the medical professionals talk about how sick pts are and the utter sadness that they are not with family. You can see the trauma on the faces of these courageous providers.....they are clearly shell shocked and are begging people to stay home.
-
I am furious that my state (Missouri) and others are LIFTING much of the shelter-in-place restrictions, while we had our highest rate of infection today! Stupid, stupid, stupid people! Effing $$$$$ grubbers.
-
I am so sorry that Missouri has such a clueless governor. Arkansas' Governor is doing a great job in spite of people yelling he needs to move faster in opening things up. All I can say is at least you aren't Louisianna.
-
Pretty happy with Gavin Newsom! And my neighbors here. My personal theory is the reason Californians coped with having to shelter in place is that we have had prior earthquakes, fires, drought-- we know that when shit happens and the county says "pack your car," you do it.
Alice you must be so incredibly frustrated. The yahoos, emboldened by the president, making things unsafe for all.
-
I'm with you on Newsom, Santabarbarian. He's done an amazing job. We're the largest state, with some very populous areas, but a fairly low death rate. Let's just hope we can keep it that way.
The one thing that irritates the hell out of me is the idiots gathering in Huntington Beach with signs and sticks. They seemed the think the people of California support their dumbassery. Um, no. This is not Missouri (no offense, Alice) or Georgia. We are a progressive state, with a very well liked governor.
There's a reason we got rid of nearly every Republican in our representation. Not a lot of support for their idiotic policies here.
-
Well, not all Republican run states are run by idiots. Arkansas had very limited shut downs. Appealed to voluntary compliance to social distancing, and mask wearing. Groups larger than 10 people were banned and personal grooming businesses were closed along with other measures. We have among the lowest case and death rates in the nation. We have downward trends in new cases and a daily increase in testing. Just look up Arkansas https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/natio...
We don't have any protests and believe me, rednecks like any excuse to show off their guns.
-
I think the Russians seed that kind of protest with the same kinds of fake facebook posts that targeted disaffected far left people to stay home in 2016. Aided and abetted by the Murchochs and Mercers and the bought congressional GOP.
Some GOP governors have performed well, for sure.
-
Missouri got stuck with Governor Parson because Eric Grrrreitens needed an older, rural running mate. Then Grrrreitens got thrown in the slammer, and Ol' Bubba is having to fake his way through governing. And I may have been stuck in Missouri for the last several decades, but I'll never be a Missourian. I'm a proud Illinoisan-in-exile.
-
Arkansas is starting to open. Why not consider a move? Here is the Asa Hutchinson's latest address. It starts about 2 min. in. Good charts.
-
I saw Asa Hutchinson on MSNBC the other day, Ananda. From all accounts he's doing a great job in Arkansas. He seems like what Republicans used to be. Careful, somewhat conservative and a little old fashioned. Nothing like the vicious, xenophobic, uneducated rabble that loves Trump. Even though I'm extremely liberal, I miss that Republican party.
-
That's our guy. I may disagree with his politics but he leads when the rednecks are calling for his head. He believes in science and shares the spotlight with subordinates. There are still real Republicans out there. May there be more like him in the future once we get these ass hats out of government.
