Brene Brown is so great.

My Dad's situation has dipped. He's not feverish anymore, but he is 92 and seems to be in the process of passing away. He has zero appetite and now orange juice is too "thick" for him so that seems to be him shutting down. Could have been one last rally when he kicked the fever. The day the fever broke he accepted one piece of bacon (I'd been urging him to eat for several days) and before he bit it he said, "I am eating this because I love you."

He is not a quitter, but things are shutting down.

We called hospice for him yesterday, and they came this morning, and left us with pain and anxiety meds should they be needed. For anyone who is curious they gave us oral (liquid) morphene, ativan, and haldol. I am thankful that he can be home and is so far quite comfortable. If he gets into any pain or struggle, though, we can alleviate it. I am glad he rallied and we had a very nice 48 hours together. I love my Dad so much. My kids all called and he had a radiant smile for those calls. His sister, my cousins, even my ex-husband all called to tell him how much they love him. That has been beautiful and I am glad to be here to make a difference.

santabarbarian, I am so, so sorry about your dad. I think your observations are correct based on my experiences with dying people. It’s terrible that he was so sick and seemed to rally, but fortunate that he was able to talk to everyone. Hospice is really a wonderful program and they truly try to help make pts comfortable/pain free. My mother’s hospice nurse was a gem and was a comfort to us as well. The greatest silver lining is that he is at home. I’m not sure about where you are, but many hospitals are not allowing anyone but pts in and the healthcare workers are talking about the profound sadness they are feeling b/c so many people are dying alone. Again, I am so sorry, but glad you are where you are with it.

santabarbarian - I'm so sorry. I am glad that you are together and he's surrounded by love. He sounds like a good man and father. I don't have experience with hospice. People in my family have died suddenly.

My husband went out for the weekly food shopping. There was a small line to enter. Before getting a cleaned cart, he answered some screening questions and washed his hands at a portable sink with a pedal to turn on the water. Once inside he found everything he needed. They had more TP than usual, but he didn't buy any. The cashier was her usual chipper self. He estimates about 30% of shoppers wore a face covering. He wore a Buff.

We're on the island of Montreal, but west of the outbreaks. The mayor wants everyone to stay close to home. There have been too many people going downtown. No staycations!

Not bad considering what I've read is happening elsewhere.

I'm waiting for the delivery of Ibrance and Xgeva. I'll go to a local clinic tonight to get the Xgeva injected. It's never crowded, and sick patients aren't treated there. Still a bit anxious about being in public though. Breathe.
